Carpe Diem romps in Keeneland’s Blue Grass Stakes

WinStar Farm LLC and Stonestreet Stables LLC’s Carpe Diem will go to the Kentucky Derby (G1) as one of the favorites after chasing fellow OBS graduate Ocho Ocho Ocho (April ’14) into the stretch of Keeneland’s $1, 000, 000 Blue Grass Stakes (G1), taking command a furlong from home and drawing off to three length victory. Ocho Ocho Ocho settled for third. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Giant’s Causeway, trained by Todd Pletcher, now 5-4-1-0 and the newest millionaire OBS graduate with earnings of $1,519,800. C R K  Stable’s Kobe’s Back won his second graded stakes race the same way he won his first, coming from last with a powerful late run and roaring past the leaders in the final yards to score by three quarters of a length in the $300,000 Commonwealth Stakes(G3) at Keeneland. Trained by Peter Eurton, the 4-year-old colt by Flatter is now 11-3-2-1 and has earned $506,250. He was sold for $480,000 by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale after an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Averill Racing LLC, Silver Oak Stable and Gregory Kaufman’s graded stakes placed R Sassy Lass added the $75,000 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs to her resume on Saturday, charging toward the leaders on the turn, taking charge a furlong from the wire and scoring by a length and three quarters. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Exclusive Quality, trained by Kirk Ziadie, leaving her with a  6-3-1-1 record and $151,055 in earnings. Consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung) Agent, to the 2014 OBS April Sale, she breezed an Under Tack  eighth in :10 1/5 and then  was purchased by Richard Averill for $40,000 watch her under tack video

Stanley S. Moles & Starr Stables LLC’s Charlie’s Brother took the lead going to the turn in Saturday’s $75,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sophomore Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, surrendered it briefly to fellow OBS graduate  Fast Flying Rumor (June ’14) turning for home, then came again, retook control and drew off to a 3-3/4 length victory.  Fancy Man (August ’13) completed an OBS trifecta. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by With Distinction, trained by Lynn Scace, now 10-3-2-1 with earnings of $126,990. A two time OBS graduate, he was sold first by Janie Roper, Agent, at the 2013 OBS August Sale. Consigned by Hendry Training Stables LLC, Agent, to the 2014 June Sale, he turned in a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Kaleem Shah’s Enchanting Lady battled for the lead from the start of Sunday’s $77,050 Santa Paula Stakes at Santa Anita, took over at the head of the stretch and pulled away to a 2-1/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Ben’s Duchess (March ’14, August ’13) checked in third. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat, trained by Bob Baffert, now 4-2-1-0 with earnings of $134,280. After breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the 2014 OBS March Sale’s Under Tack Show, she was purchased on the recommendation of Bob Baffert and Donato Lanni for $650,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment. watch her under tack video
