El Kabeir scores in Churchill’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes

Zayat Stables LLC’s El Kabeir opened a daylight lead under Calvin Borel in the early going of Saturday’s $233, 000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, and the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Scat Daddy led wire to wire, hanging on for a head decision over Imperia. It’s the first stakes win the John Terranova trainee, second last time out in Aqueduct’s Nashua Stakes (G2) on November 2, and leaves him with a 5-2-1-1 record and earnings of $268,892. Donver Stable’s Decision Day tried stakes company for the first time in the $250,400 Coronation Futurity at Woodbine, set a pressured pace under Jesse Campbell throughout and refused to yield in the drive, prevailing by a head, with fellow OBS graduate Shez a Masterpiece (April ’14) checking in third. Trained by Josie Carroll, the 2-year-old colt by Macho Uno is now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $179,435. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. Lawrence P. Roman and David Jacobson’s Stormin Monarcho rallied from off the pace, hit the front in the final furlong and scored by a length in Saturday’s $100,000 Swatara Stakes at Penn National.  It’s the second straight stakes win for the 4-year-old gelding by Monarchos, trained by David Jacobsen, and leaves him with a 28-9-7-3 with earnings of $412,281. He was sold for $85,000 by Imagine . . . at the 2012 OBS March Sale after working an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Michael R. Cox’s Rockin Jojo picked up her first stakes victory in Saturday’s $76,500 Blue Mountain Juvenile Stakes, rolling past the leaders on the outside in the stretch and drawing away late to win by a length and a half. The 2-year-old daughter of Street Magician was consigned  by Best a Luck Farm LLC, Agent,  to the 2014 OBS April Sale, where she worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by T. Bernard Houghton, she’s now 5-2-1-1 and has earned $101,050. watch her under tack video
