Fall Mixed Sale begins Tuesday; Under Tack Show Monday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 Winter Mixed Sale begins Tuesday, October 14th.  A total of 575 horses has been cataloged for the two day auction, beginning with Hip Numbers 1- 238 selling in the Consignor Preferred session.

Hip Numbers 239 – 470 in the Open Session will be offered on Wednesday, October 15th followed immediately by Hip Numbers 471 – 575 in the Horses of Racing Age section, which includes a supplement (Hip No. 575) to the sale. The sale begins each day at 10:30 a.m. The optional Under Tack Show for the Horses of Racing Age is scheduled for Monday, October 13th at 10:00 a.m.

As always, the sale and Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website and the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.

The catalog for the entire sale may be viewed on the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The sortable master index provides links to past performances, under tack videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

A separate catalog for the Racing Age section in printed form is available at the sales grounds.

There are 210 weanlings in the sale by a large and diverse group of sires. Curlin heads the roster of established stallions, a group that also includes Bellamy Road, Into Mischief, Lookin At Lucky, Quality Road, Super Saver, Tiz Wonderful and Warrior’s Reward, as well as Florida-based Awesome of Course, High Cotton, Kantharos, Two Step Salsa and Wildcat Heir.

Graded stakes winners Astrology, Gemologist and Stay Thirsty headline the sale’s list of first crop weanling sires, which also includes Florida-based Biondetti and Overdriven.

Uncle Mo heads an impressive roster of second crop weanling sires. Cape Blanco (IRE), Drosselmeyer and Sidney’s Candy are also represented, as well as Florida-based Big Drama, First Dude and Gone Astray.  

Broodmare buyers will find mares in foal to a strong group of proven stallions including Colonel John, Congrats, Majestic Warrior, Scat Daddy, Tale of the Cat and Lucky Pulpit, sire of Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome. The sale also features mares in foal to a sharp group of first year sires including Algorithms, Bodemeister, Flat Out, Overanalyze and Take Charge Indy, as well as Florida-based Prospective, Rattlesnake Bridge, Soldat, Treasure Beach (GB) and Winslow Homer.

The 105 horses in the Racing Age section include a number of horses with black type credentials. Hip No. 483, Surfing U S A, is a 3-year-old colt by Roman Ruler who was third in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) last winter. Multiple stakes placed Joe Tess, Hip No. 503, a 4-year-old gelding by Macho Uno, enters the auction ring straight from hitting the board in Laurel’s Punch Line Stakes on September 13th.

The Racing Age Section also features unraced 2-year-olds sired by an impressive group of stallions that includes Awesome Again, Ghostzapper, Kantharos, Lemon Drop Kid, More Than Ready, Super Saver, Tale of the Cat, Tapit, Tiznow, Yes It’s True and Warrior’s Reward.
