John C. Oxley’s Northern Passion sat comfortably off the pace in the $115, 000 Sweet Briar Too Stakes at Woodbine on July 1, came wide off the turn then ran down the leaders, taking charge in deep stretch and scoring by a length and a half over front-running fellow OBS graduate Unhedged (October ’10). It’s the fourth black type win for the 5-year-old graded stakes winning mare by First Samurai, now 15-5-2-1 with earnings of $617,122. After working a Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, she was purchased by trainer Mark Casse for $220,000 from Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch her under tack video
