Malibu Moon colt tops June Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 196, a son of Malibu Moon consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Willis Horton for $250,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The bay colt, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5, is out of graded stakes winner Stylish by Thunder Gulch, a daughter of graded stakes winner Miss Lenora.

Hip No. 148, Avenue of Art, a bay colt by Artie Schiller consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Conquest Stables LLC for $220,000. The bay colt, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Monday’s Under Tack session, is out of Sookloozy, by Avenue of Flags, a half sister to graded stakes placed Royal Treasure.

Hip No. 44, a son of Curlin who also turned in an eighth in :10 flat on Monday, went to Sheikh Abdullah S. Almaddah for $170,000. Consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, the chestnut colt is out of Rockintotherhythm, by Broad Brush, a half sister to graded stakes winner Haka.

Hip No. 126, a dark bay or brown colt by Bullsbay consigned by Casse Sales LLC (Justin Casse), was sold to Magnolia Mountain Bloodstock for $115,000. Out of Sister Dyer, by Pulpit, a daughter of graded stakes winner Belterra, he worked a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Steven W. Young, Agent, went to $110,000 for Hip No 72, Miss Indigo Star, a daughter of Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by New Episode Training Center, Inc., Agent. The bay filly, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Saracina, by Bertrando, from the family of graded stakes winner Daloma (FR).

Hip No. 193, a son of Candy Ride (ARG) who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 on Monday, was sold for $100,000 to Mike Ryan, Agent. The bay colt, consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, is out of stakes winner Striking Tomisue, by Smart Strike, and is a half brother to stakes placed Victor Got Even.

J S Company Ltd. paid $100,000 for Hip No. 220, a daughter of Harlan’s Holiday who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Tuesday, Consigned by McKathan Bros., Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Swinging, by Wild Again, and is a half sister to stakes placed Off Limits.

McKathan Bros., Agent also sold Hip No. 231, Bourbon Music, for $100,000, the bay filly going to M. Recio Bloodstock, Agent for Mike Anderson Racing. Out of grade one stakes winner Tap to Music, by Pleasant Tap, she worked an eighth on Tuesday in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 261, daughter of Distorted Humor, consigned by Imagine…, was purchased for $100,000 by Classic Bloodstock LLC, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Time Clock, by Unbridled,  half sister to graded stakes winner Watch.

For the session, 164 horses grossed $5,044,700, compared with 231 selling for a total of $7,109,700 at last year’s first session. The average was $30,760, nearly identical to $30,778 in 2013 while the media price rose 12.5% from $20,000 a year ago to $22,500. The buyback percentage was 30.8%; it was 21.7% last year.
