Suroof tops Winter Mixed Sale’s Open Session

Hip No. 763, Suroof, a broodmare prospect by Empire Maker consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, went to Julio Rada, Agent, for $57,000 top the Open Session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 Winter Mixed Sale. The 7-year-old bay mare, who earned $156,831, is out of Amber Token, by Hennessy, a half sister to graded stakes winner Token Dance.

Hip No. 615, Porspoder (IRE), a 4-year-old winning daughter of Dalakhani consigned by Eversole Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Calumet Farm for $55,000. Out of grade one stakes placed New Story, by Dynaformer, the gray or roan filly is a half sister to graded stakes winner New Girlfriend (IRE).

Calumet also bought Hip No. 845, a yearling colt by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent. The chestnut colt is out of Ellenville, by Carson City, a daughter of stakes winner Water Street.

Hip No. 723, Fire Fire Fire, a colt by First Dude consigned by Southern Cypress Stable LLC, Agent, was sold to Honeygrove Farm for $47,000. The yearling bay colt is out of Tigress Express, by Polish Numbers, and is a half brother to stakes placed Pensylvaniaexpress.

Hip No. 843, a Wildcat Heir filly consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Machmer Hall for $42,000. The yearling bay filly is out of stakes placed Earthquake Ride, by Meadowlake.

Rustlewood Farm paid $40,000 for Hip No. 664, a son of Big Drama also consigned by Summerfield. The gray or roan yearling colt is out of Samantha O, by Unbridled’s Song, and is a half sister to stakes placed Risk Factor.

For the Open Session, 208 horses sold for a total of $1,785,900 compared with 169 horses grossing a total of $1,199,600 the corresponding session in 2013. The average price was $8,586, up 20.9% compared with $7,098 a year ago while the median price was $5,000, a gain of 19% compared with $4,200 in 2013. The buyback percentage was 26.2%; it was 31.8% last year.

At Tuesday’s Consignor Preferred session, 153 horses sold for total of $2,957,700 compared with 98 horses grossing $1,726,900 in 2013. The average price was $19,331, up 9.7% compared with $17,621 a year ago, while the median price was $15,000, a gain of 25% over last year’s $12.000. The buyback percentage was 32.3%; it was 31.9% last year. The sale topper was Hip No. 236, Back to Class, a Montbrook filly consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, sold to Adena Springs for $85,000. The 4-year-old chestnut filly is out of Cut Class Leanne, by Cutlass, and is a full sister to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Chapel Royal.

At the Horses of Racing Age section, 99 horses sold for a total of $1,643,400, compared with 106 horses grossing $1,629,000 at the corresponding session in 2013. The average price was $16,605, up 8.1% from $15,368 in 2013 and the median price was $10,000 up 21.2% from $8,250 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 20.8%; it was 20.3% in 2013.
