Egg Drop, Stormofthecentury win Labor Day graded stakes

Little Red Feather Racing’s Egg Drop is a graded stakes winner after stalking the pace, taking command in the final furlong and winning Monday’s $151, 000 Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) at Del Mar by a head.  It’s the first stakes win for the lightly raced 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Alphabet Soup, sold for $12,000 by Janie Roper, Agent, at the 2010 OBS August Sale. Now 10-4-2-2, she has earned $254,020 to date.

Beechwood Racing Stable LLC’s Stormofthecentury tried stakes company for the first time in Monday’s $350,000 Turf Monster Handicap (G3) at Parx Racing, and was ignored at 28-1. But the 5-year-old Florida-bred Dark Kestrel gelding relished the soft going, rallied between horses in the lane and got up to win by three quarters of a length. The win, his third in a row, leaves him 16-6-3-0 with earnings of $349,499. He was sold by his breeder, the University of Florida Equine Sciences Program, for $1,700 at the 2009 OBS August Sale.

Ken Geren’s Free Mugatu is two for two and a stakes winner after rallying to win Friday’s $98,000 Law Enforcement Stakes at Saratoga by a neck, with fellow OBS graduate Sol the Freud (March ’13) checking in third. The 2-year-old son of Utopia (JPN) was sold by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, for $150,000 at the 2013 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old gelding by Louis Quatorze, consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, to the 2010 OBS Winter Mixed Sale. The win gives him a 44-12-4-3 record and earnings of $382,245.

Saul Gevertz, William E. Morey, Roger Newman and Ray Pagano’s Positive Response took charge of the $53,600 Rolling Green Stakes at Golden Gate on Monday at the eighth pole and eased away to a one length victory. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Pomeroy, now 25-9-4-2 with $385,783 in earnings. He was sold for $21,000 by W.D. North Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2010 OBS June Sale. watch his under tack video
