Ive Struck a Nerve upsets Fair Grounds’ Risen Star Stakes

Big Chief Racing LLC’s Ive Struck a Nerve looked like a 135-1 shot in the early going of the $400, 000 Risen Star Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds on Saturday, but the 3-year-old colt by Yankee Gentleman rallied from last of twelve, swung wide for the drive and was up in the final yards to score by a nose and return a tidy $272.40 to win. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2011 August Yearling Sale before bringing $82,000 when purchased out of the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2012 April Sale. Repole Stable’s Unlimited Budget is still unbeaten after sweeping to the lead on the outside around the turn and rolling to a 3-3/4 length victory in the $200,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G3) at Fair Grounds. Three for three with two graded stakes wins and earnings of $310,200, the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Street Sense was sold for $475,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2012 OBS March Sale. watch her under tack video

Sam Britt & Michael House’s Dry Summer sat just off the lead in the $120,000 Mine That Bird Derby at Sunland Park on Saturday, took charge in the final furlong and drew out to a 1-1/2 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Stormdriver (August ’11) up for third.  That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old son of Any Given Saturday, sold for $120,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Mike McCarty’s graded stakes winning Unbridled’s Note got his 2013 campaign off on the right foot with a front-running nose decision in the $76,900 Joe Hernandez Handicap at Santa Anita, with fellow OBS graduate Tale of a Champion (April ’10) checking in third. Now 10-4-1-3 with $457,581 in earnings, the 4-year-old colt by Unbridled’s Song was sold for $140,000 by Jerry Bailey Sales Agency, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

John Fuller’s Persuasive Paul tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $75,000 Turf Paradise Dreby, and the three-time OBS graduate drew off to a 3-3/4 length victory.  Sold first by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2011 Winter Mixed Sale, the colt by Olmodavor  was resold by Whitman Sales at the 2011 August Sale before being purchased for $45,000 out of the Tradewinds Farm consignment at the 2012 June Sale. The victory gives him a 6-3-0-2 record and earnings of $93,490.  watch his under tack video

Thomas D. Shank and Stan Young’s Good Lord made it five stakes wins in his last seven starts, getting up in deep stretch and winning Tampa Bay Downs’ $75,000 Super Stakes by three quarters of a length. The 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Greatness is now 46-9-9-10 and has earned $477,109 to date. He was consigned by Tradewinds Farm, Agent, to the 2009 OBS June Sale. watch his under tack video

Repole Stable’s Stopshoppingmaria tracked frontrunning fellow OBS graduate Rosa Salvaje (August ’09) in Gulfstream’s $60,000 Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes, took over in the stretch and beat her to the wire by a length and three quarters. It’s the third straight win and first stakes victory for the 4-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, sold for $100,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale.
