2012 Grade One Winners From OBS Two-Year-Old Sales
J. Paul Reddam’s I’ll Have Another earned his Eclipse Award on the strength of victories in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1). He’s the third OBS two-year-old graduate voted champion 3-year-old male, joining Skip Away and Silver Charm. Undefeated in 2012 with four graded stakes wins, the son of Flower Alley was sold for $35, 000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, on behalf of Victor Davila at the 2011 OBS April Sale. Retired on the morning of the Belmont Stakes, he ended his racing career with earnings of $2,693,600 and is now standing at stud in Japan at Big Red Farm. Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg is the fourth OBS juvenile graduate to win the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter, joining Cherokee Run, Lost in the Fog and Midnight Lute. He won three graded stakes in 2012, ending the year with a victory in the $1,363,500 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Sold for $21,000 by M & H Training and Sales (David & Kaylynn Mc Kathan), Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale, he has earned $1,483,300 to date. watch his under tack video
Peachtree Stable’s Plum Pretty, winner of the 2012 $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park, was a multiple graded stakes winner of $1,656,700. Her 2011 Kentucky Oaks (G1) victory was the second straight by an OBS two-year-old graduate, following Blind Luck’s win in 2010. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, sold for $130,000 by Kirkwood Stables, Agent, at the 2010 OBS March Sale, then sold as a broodmare prospect for $4,200,000 this past November. watch her under tack video
Pinnacle Racing Stables and trainer Bill Kaplan’s champion Musical Romance, winner of Calder’s Princess Rooney (G1) in April, retired from racing a multiple stakes winner of $1,682,855. The daughter of Concorde’s Tune won the Eclipse Award as 2011’s champion Female Sprinter. Sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale, she brought $1.6-million as a broodmare prospect in November. watch her under tack video
P and G Stables and Off the Hook Racing’s Turbo Compressor won Monmouth’s $505,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) in July, cruising by a length and three quarters. He ended 2012 with a 17-7-2-2 record and earnings of $953,960. The son of Halo’s Image was sold for $22,000 by breeder Bridlewood Farm at the 2010 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video
Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith’s Turbulent Descent won the Ballerina Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in August. The multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Congrats completed her career with four grade one wins including Saratoga’s prestigious Test Stakes (G1) and earnings of $1,211,640. Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s Eclipse Award finalist Executiveprivilege won four graded races in 2012, including the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Chandelier Stakes (G1). The 2012 OBS April Sale topper was sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000. She ended her 2-year-old campaign with five wins in seven starts and earnings of $940,000. watch her under tack video
Featherston, Jacobsen & Miller’s Camp Victory won the $250,000 Triple Bend Handicap (G1) at Betfair Hollywood Park and ended 2012 with earnings of $547,986. Three Diamonds Farm’s Next Question achieved grade one status in 2012 with a victory in the $501,200 Nearctic Stakes (G1) at Woodbine. Lakland Farm’s Unbridled Command ended his 3-year-old year with a big run from well back to win the $250,000 Hollywood Derby (G1). It was his fifth straight win and second graded stakes score, and left him with a 10-6-1-2 record and $469,040 in earnings. Bluegrass Hall LLC’s Hightail won the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint in a stretch duel over fellow OBS graduate Merit Man (April ’12). The son of Mineshaft was purchased by trainer D. Wayne Lukas on behalf Brad Kelley’s Bluegrass Hall for $345,000 from Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2012 March Sale. watch his under tack video
Sam Britt and Michael House’s Gabriel Charles found Santa Anita’s downhill turf course to his liking in the $100,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview Stakes on Saturday, rallying from just off the pace and then drawing off to a 3-1/2 length victory.
