Champion Musical Romance preps for Breeders’ Cup

Pinnacle Racing Stables and trainer Bill Kaplan’s champion Musical Romance warmed up for her upcoming Breeders’ Cup appearance with a workmanlike three quarter length victory over Golden Mystery (Adena Springs ’08) in Calder’s $55, 000 Mike Sherman Memorial Stakes on Saturday. It’s the ninth stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Concorde’s Tune, sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale. The 2011 champion Female Sprinter is now 40-12-8-8 and has earned $1, 681,885.  watch her under tack video

Ike & Dawn Thrash’s graded stakes winner Hurricane Ike picked up his first win of the year on Saturday at Hoosier Park, scoring by a length over fellow OBS graduate Good Lord (June ’09) in the $104,300 Michael G. Schaefer Memorial Mile Stakes. Sold for $115,000 by Southern Breeze Ranch, Agent, at the 2008 OBS August Sale, the 5-year-old Florida-bred horse by Graeme Hall improved his record to 25-5-6-3 and boosted his bankroll to $508,070. 

Frank Calabrese’s well-traveled graded winner Romacaca added Hawthorne’s $100,000 Indian Maid Stakes to her resume Saturday with a 1-3/4 length wire to wire victory. That’s nine stakes wins for the 6-year-old Florida-bred mare by Running Stag, consigned by breeder Cashel Stud to the 2007 OBS August Sale and the 2008 OBS April Sale. Closing in on a million, she’s now 31-15-5-3 with earnings of $866,992.  watch her under tack video

G. Ray Trisler’s Ladystarturengine scored her first stakes win at Hoosier Park on Saturday, taking the $88,850 City of Anderson Stakes by a length and three quarters, with fellow OBS graduate Over the Counter (April ‘12) checking in third. It’s the second straight win for the 2-year-old filly by Jump Start, consigned by Eversole Thoroughbreds, Agent, to the 2012 OBS April Sale. She’s now 5-2-1-2 and has earned $98,907 to date. watch her under tack video

GZS Stable LLC’s Dual Exhauzt took the early lead in Calder’s $72,750 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap on Saturday and stayed there all the way for his first stakes victory, holding off fellow OBS graduate Black Diamond Cat (August ’08, January ’08) by a length and a quarter. The 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Alke is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Journeyman Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2009 October Sale before being purchased for $55,000 out of the Lynne Boutte consignment at the 2010 April Sale. The win gives him a 20-4-5-4 record and earnings of $201,619. watch his under tack video
