Alpha Bettor wins Woodbine’s Seagram Cup Stakes

Bulldog Racing’s Alpha Bettor, overlooked at 23-1 in the $152, 202 Seagram Cup Stakes (G3) at Woodbine on Saturday, got up in the final yards to win his first stakes race by half a length. It’s the second win in five starts this year for the 4-year-old colt by Alphabet Soup, now 17-5-3-1 with earnings of $292,547. Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Major Marvel shipped to Mountaineer Park for Saturday’s $100,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker’s Cup Stakes, took the lead turning for home and drew clear for 1-3/4 length victory in a course record 1:37 1/5 for the mile and seventy yards on the turf. It’s the first stakes score for the well-traveled 6-year-old son of Bernstein, consigned by True South, Agent, to the 2008 OBS March Stakes. Tri-Star Racing LLC and Joe B. Denson’s Brown Almighty is two for two and a stakes winner after his 2-3/4 length win in Saturday’s $50,000 Sunny’s Halo Stakes at Louisiana Downs. The 2-year-old colt by Big Brown, the first stakes winner for his sire, has earned $54,000 to date.
