August Yearling Sale begins Tuesday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 August Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, August 21st. There are 751 yearlings cataloged for the three-day sale, which begins Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with 188 horses offered in the Selected session. The Sale continues with two Open sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, August 22nd and 23rd. Hip No.’s 189-470 will be sold Wednesday; Hip No.’s 471-751 sell on Thursday. Both Opens sessions will start at 10:30 a.m.

Conformation photographs of most of the Selected yearlings may be viewed via a Sortable Master Index in the OBS website. The Master Index also includes links to pedigree updates via equineline.com. The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website and also via the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.

OBS August Sale graduates have a long history of success at racing’s highest levels, headed by the accomplishments of Hall of Fame classic winner Silver Charm.  Eclipse Award winners Kodiak Kowboy, Not Surprising, Xtra Heat and Groovy also were August Sale graduates.

B.J. Wright’s Jeranimo became the 21st and newest millionaire OBS August Sale graduate after his victory in Betfair Hollywood Park’s $300,000 Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1). The son of Congaree was sold for $50,000 by On Course Sales, Agent, at the 2007 August Sale.

Jeranimo is one of 122 August graduates who have won or placed in 230 stakes races since the beginning of 2011.  Other August alumni in the headlines recently include Lewis Pell, Michael Eigner and Pinnacle Racing Stables Et Al’s Another Romance, winner of Calder’s $150,000 Azalea Stakes (G3) for trainer Bill Kaplan at Calder’s Summit of Speed in July. Purchased from Tara Stables, Inc. Agent, at the 2010 August Sale, Kaplan and Pinnacle are looking to duplicate their success with Eclipse Award winning OBS graduate Musical Romance.

Frank Calabrese’s 6-year-old mare Romacaca added Arlington’s $200,000 Modesty Handicap (G3) to her resume recently, boosting her bankroll to just under $800,000. The seven time stakes winner was  consigned by breeder Cashel Stud to the 2007 August Sale .

The Selected Sale’s catalog cover features Sharon Alesia, Bran Jam Stables, Ciaglia Racing LLC & Ron Dyrdek’s Weemissfrankie, winner of her first three starts, two in grade one company. With earnings of over $500,000 to her credit, she was sold by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2010 August Yearling Sale.

Graduates of the 2011 August Sale have begun making their mark. Last year’s graduates are off to promising starts, scoring in high class  maiden races at Arlington, Belmont, Calder, Hollywood, Saratoga and Woodbine, with Easten & Elsaida DeSouza’a Candy Coded Kisses capturing the recent Florida Stallion Desert Vixen Stakes at Calder.

The 2012 catalog features a full brother to graded stakes winner Hurricane Ike, half brothers to graded winners Lismore Knight, Now a Victor and Yara and half sisters to graded stakes winners Birdbirdistheword and Bustin Stones.  

  The 2012 OBS August Sale boasts a strong roster of leading stallions. Giant’s Causeway, Empire Maker, War Front and  Kitten’s Joy are represented along with  Candy Ride (ARG), Elusive Quality, Pulpit, Hard Spun, Congrats and Afleet Alex.

Up and coming sires are featured, with yearlings by Curlin, Pioneerof the Nile, Colonel John, Majestic Warrior, Tiz Wonderful, Dunkirk, Old Fashioned, Cowboy Cal, Midnight Lute and Kodiak Kowboy.

Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) is atop the list of Florida-based stallions, along with Wildcat Heir, High Cotton, Put It Back, With Distinction, Montbrook, Pomeroy, Two Step Salsa, Cowtown Cat and In Summation.
