Orientate colt tops third April Sale session

Hip No. 731, a colt by Orientate consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Hill N Dale Bloodstock for $450,000 to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The dark bay or brown colt, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Thursday’s Under Tack session, is out of Mir Cat, by Tale of the Cat, a half sister to stakes placed Runnin Ute.

Hip No. 814, a Stormy Atlantic filly consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Narvick International for $300,000. The chestnut filly, who worked a quarter in :21 flat, is out of One West, by Gone West, a half sister to graded stakes winner Indescribable.

Zayat Stables went to $270,000 for Hip No. 802, Brother Ny, a Brother Derek colt consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent. The bay colt out of Nyanza, by Montbrook, a half sister to stakes winner Sweet Nanette, worked a quarter in :21 flat.

Eddie Woods also consigned Hip No. 648, a Street Sense filly sold to Mark Casse, Agent, for $240,000. The bay filly, out of stakes winner Leona’s Knight, by Suave Prospect, breezed an eighth in :10 flat.

Hip No. 685, a filly byGreeley’s Galaxy consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to XIB, Agent, for $215,000. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Maggie’s Pearle, by Bright Launch, a half sister to graded stakes placed and graded stakes producer Manduria.

For the session, 193  horses grossed $8,402,200, compared with 209 horses selling  for a total of $6,086,200 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $43,535, up 49.5% from $29, 121 a year ago, while the median price rose 50% from $20,000 in 2011 to $20,000. The buyback percentage was 17.2%; it was 22.3% last year. Seventeen horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with eleven a year ago.
