Medaglia d’Oro filly tops April Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 160, a filly by Medaglia d’Oro consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to Southwind Stables, Inc. for $400,000 to top the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Bashful Charmer, by Capote, and is a half sister to stakes winner Saturday’s Child.

Hip No. 50, a Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Cairan Dunne), Agent, went to Deborah Easter, Agent for Jon & Sarah Kelly for $285,000.  The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of West Indian, by Indian Charlie, and is a half brother to stakes winner Golden Dreamer.

Hip No. 233, a filly by Henny Hughes consigned by Best A Luck Farm, Agent, was sold for $225,000 to Oh, Ho Kuck (Oh, Jong Hwan). The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the fastest work at the distance at the first session of the Under Tack Show, is out of Cape Discovery, by Cape Town, from the family of graded stakes winner Inexplicable.

Tommy Hutton’s Dream Stable went to $220,000 for Hip No. 92, a filly by Street Boss consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of stakes placed Airizon, by Boston Harbor.

Jim & Susan Hill went to $220,000 for Hip No.267, a colt by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Hoppel’s Horse and Cattle Co., Agent. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in:10 flat, is out of Cita My Dear, by Kris S., a daughter of stakes winner Sophie My Love.

Hip No. 105, an Unbridled’s Song colt consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, was sold to Bloom Racing Stable LLC, for $210,000. The gray or roan colt, out of stakes winner Amazing Buy, by High Yield, worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.

For the day, 179 horses grossed $7,403,000, compared with 199 horses grossed $5,663,400 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $41,358 a gain of 45.3% compared with $28,459 a year ago while the median price was $25,000, up 25% from $20,000 in 2011. The buyback percentage was 23.2%; it was 27.1% last year.

Thirteen horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with eight at last year’s opening session.
