March Sale begins Tuesday

The 2012 OBS Juvenile Sale season gets under way on Tuesday, March 13th with the first session of the March  Selected Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. There are 362 juveniles cataloged for the two-day sale, streamed live via theOBS website at obssales.com.

The sale is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13th and 14th with each session beginning at 11 a.m. Hip No.’s 1 – 180 sell on Tuesday; No.’s 181 – 362 will be offered on Wednesday.

At the Under Tack Show, two youngsters consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, posted the fastest eighth, each stopping the timer in :9 4/5. Hip No. 93, who worked on Thursday, is a bay colt by Johannesburg out of Quiet City, by Carson City, and a half brother to stakes placed Veneti. The following day it was Hip No. 213, a bay filly by Indian Charlie out ofWinterForest, by Forestry, a full sister to stakes winner Ever Elusive.

Four horses shared honors for the Under Tack Show’s fastest quarter, each getting the distance in: 20 4/5. On Thursday it was Hip No. 44, a bay colt by Bluegrass Cat out of Mesmerizing Lady, by Unbridled’s Song, a half sister to graded stakes winner Spring Meadow, consigned by Derby Dreams, Agent and  Hip No. 58, consigned by Ocala Stud, Agent, a dark bay or brown colt by Montbrook out of stakes placed My Golden Quest, by Coronado’s Quest.

On Friday, it was Hip No. 208, a bay filly by Pomeroy consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay filly is out of Willie Brook, by Montbrook, and is a half sister to stakes placed Peachy Kiss. The fourth quarter in :20 4/5 was by Hip No. 298, a chestnut colt by Read the Footnotes consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, out of Dixie Talent, by Dixie Union, a half sister to graded stakes winner No Giveaway.

Trinniberg takes Gulfstream’s Swale Stakes

Shivananda Parbhoo’s Trinniberg took the lead at the start of Gulfstream’s $150, 000 Swale Stakes (G3) and never looked back, drawing away to a six length win over fellow OBS graduate Hello Prince (August ’10). It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old colt by Teuflesberg, second in the Hopeful (G1) and Nashua Stakes (G2) at two. Sold for $21,000 by M & H Training and Sales (David & Kaylynn Mc Kathan), Agent, he’s now 6-2-2-0 with earnings of $191,300. under tack link

Vexor’s return headlines OBS Day of Champions

Gold Mark Farm LLC’s graded stakes winner Vexor makes his three-year-old debut in the $50, 000 OBS Sprint Stakes as OBS holds its 23rd annual Day of Champions race card on Monday, March 12th.

The four races, for three-year-olds who have gone through the ring at an OBS sale, which will be run overOBS’ all-weather Safetrack surface, offer purses totaling $300,000 and will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com. Post time for the first race is 1:00 p.m.

Vexor heads a field of six in the OBS Sprint. Idle since the Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream in December, the Florida-bred colt by Wildcat Heir outfought fellow OBS graduate Trinniberg to win the Nashua Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park last October. Trained by Todd Quast, Vexor will be ridden by Rajiv Maragh.

 Quintessential Racing Florida LLC, Hors’n Around Racing Stable and R. Lederman’s Making Amends makes his three-year-old debut in the OBS Sprint for trainer Mark Casse. Winner of Woodbine’s Clarendon Stakes in his first start and third next out in the Vandal Stakes, the colt by Repent comes into the Sprint with a bankroll of $128,146.  

Here are the horses and riders in post position order for the six furlong race for 3-year-old colts and geldings; River Card Stable’s Mukamer, Luis Contreras; Robert and Sherleen Hall’s Trippi’s Secret, Elias Peltroche; Donald R. Dizney’s Devoted Wildcat, Kent Desormeaux; Vexor; Tom Gregerson’s It Takes Heart, Daniel Coa; Making Amends. All will carry 122 pounds.

Priscilla Vaccarezza’s My Due Process heads a field of eight in the $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for fillies, coming into the race off a third place finish in Gulfstream’s Madcap Escapade Stakes in February. Winner of the NATC Futurity last summer at Monmouth, the daughter of Henny Hughes is trained by Dale Romans and will be ridden by Manoel Cruz.

Julien Leparoux rides Raroma Stable’s Runfor Ro, supplemented to the race by trainer Greg de Gannes. The daughter of Afleet Alex, idle since November, was on the board in three stakes at Woodbine at two. John Oxley’s Delightful Magic, beaten a nose in Tampa’s Gasparilla Stakes in January, warmed up for the Sprint will a bullet five-eighths over the OBS track for trainer Mark Casse. She’ll by ridden by Luis Contreras.

Wayne A. Dacosta’s Given Enchantment heads a field of twelve in the afternoon’s third race, the filly division of the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes. Second to fellow OBS graduate Yara in the Joe O’Farrell Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Calder, the Florida-bred daughter of Pont Given, trained by Jason Dacosta, will be ridden by Luis Jurado.

Stakes winners Big Wednesday and Hello Prince head a field of eleven in the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for colts and geldings. Martin Brothers Inc. and Napier Stables LLC’s Big Wednesday, winner of the Fitz Dixon, Jr. Memorial Stakes at Presque Isle last October, comes into the race off an unplaced finish in the Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn. Trained by Joseph R. Martin, the Florida-bred son of Repent will be reunited with rider Pablo Morales, who rode him to victory at Presque Isle.

Rey Wan Racing’s Hello Prince, taken down from second in a roughly run Needles Stakes at Gulfstream last time out, had romped by six lengths in Calder’s Birdonthewire Stakes in his final start at two. The Florida-bred colt by Halo’s Image, trained by Daniel Pita, will be ridden by Jose Garcia.

Trainer Todd Pletcher has supplemented Bortolazzo Stable LLC and Wind River Stables Big Blue Nation to the OBS Championship. After winning at first asking, he was third behind OBS graduates Currency Swap and Trinniberg inSaratoga’s Hopeful Stakes (G1) despite a slow start. The Bluegrass Cat colt will be ridden by John R. Velazquez.

March Sale Under Tack Show starts Thursday

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training is set for Thursday and Friday, March 8th and 9th at 8:00 a.m.

Hip No.’s 1-180 will breeze on Thursday and Hip No’s 181-362, will work on Friday.

The March Sale is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13th and 14th with each session beginning at 11 a.m. The OBS Day of Champions Races will be run on Monday, March 12th with first post time at 1:00 p.m.

The Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and will also be streamed live via the Blood-Horse and Daily Racing Form websites. The workouts will also be recorded and videos will be available on the website, in their entirety or by individual hip number. They will also be available for viewing in the video room adjacent to the Horsemen’s Lounge in the sale pavilion well as several kiosks in the lobby and the covered walking ring. In-room viewing is available at Holiday Inn, The Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton. Under Tack Show results are posted in the OBS website. 

OBS Championship entries taken Monday

Entries for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s twenty third annual Day of Champions will be taken Monday, March 5th. The four-race card will be run on Monday, March 12th, with first post at 1:00 pm.

The four races are restricted to 3-year-olds who have gone through the ring at an OBS sale: the six furlong $50,000 OBS Sprint for fillies, the six furlong $50,000 OBS Sprint for colts and geldings, the mile and a sixteenth $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for fillies and the mile and a sixteenth $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for colts and geldings.

The races are run the day before OBS’ March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13 – 14. The March Sale Under Tack Show is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 8 – 9, beginning each morning at 8 am

Both sessions of the Under Tack Show and Day of Champions will be streamed live via the OBS website.
