Flat Out wins Suburban Handicap

Preston Stables LLC’s Flat Outscored his first graded stakes win in the $300, 000 Suburban Handicap (G2) at Belmont on Saturday, coming from just off the pace and drawing off to an easy 6-1/2 length victory. It’s the first win in three starts this year for the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Flatter, sold for $11,000 as a weanling by Thoroughstock, Agent, at the 2006 OBS Fall Mixed Sale. Now 9-4-1-0, he has earned $359,713 to date.

Quintessential Racing Florida LLC, Horse’n Around Racing Stable and R. Lederman’s Making Amends got his career off to a flying start on Sunday, scoring by a neck in his debut in Woodbine’s $156,481 Clarendon Stakes. The two-time OBS graduate was sold first by Sienna Farms LLC at the 2010 August Sale before being sold for $90, 000 by Casse Sales LLC, Agent, at the 2011 April Sale. He has earned $93,888.

J. Robert Harris III’s Mel Beach was a maiden going into Calder’s $100,000 Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes on Saturday, but came back a stakes winner after his 1-3/4 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Hello Prince (August ’10) checking in third. A three-time OBS graduate, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Pomeroy was sold first by Barry Menefee, Agent, at the 2009 Fall Mixed Sale before being consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, to the 2010 August Sale. After being sold for $67,000 by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, at the 2011 March Sale, he’s now 4-1-3-0 and has earned $80,600 to date.

Frank Carl Calabrese’s Romacaca rang up her third straight stakes score Sunday in the $77,700 Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park, improving her record to 22-11-4-2 and boosting her bankroll to $478,092. It was the fourth straight win and sixth stakes victory for the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Running Stag, consigned by Cashel Stud, Agent, to both the 2007 August and 2008 April OBS Sales.

Bluestone Thoroughbreds LLC’s Black Diamond Cat scored his first stakes win on Monday at Calder, beating fellow OBS graduate Accredit (October ’05) by a nose in the $75,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint Stakes. It’s the second straight win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Wildcat Heir, now 26-5-4-4 with earnings of $154,184. Sold first by Kaizen Sales, Agent, at the 2008 Winter Mixed Sale, he was consigned by Marion Bloodstock, Agent, to the 2008 August Sale.

Robert Abbo Racing Stable LLC’s Immortal Eyes made it two straight stakes wins on Sunday at Colonial, running six furlongs in a snappy 1:07 4/5 en route to a 1-3/4 length win in the $75,000 Chesapeake Stakes. The 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Greatness was first sold by Adena Springs South at the 2006 Winter Mixed Sale then resold by Beth Bayer, Agent, at the 2006 August Yearling Sale. He finally was sold for $220,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2007 February Sale.

Klaravich Stables Inc. & William H. Lawrence’s Populist Politics posted his second straight stakes win at Evangeline Downs on Saturday, taking the $75,000 Louisiana Showcase Mile Stakes by a length. It’s the third stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Don’t Get Mad, sold for $70,000 by M & H Training and Sales, Agent, at the 2010 OBS April Sale. He’s now 8-3-1-1 with $162,395 in earnings.

Jessica Colon’s Imperial Czar led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $55,000 American Dreamer Stakes Saturday, scoring by three lengths over Too Experience (April ’10, August ’09), with Chiseled Light (August ’09) a length back in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Imperialism, now 20-5-6-1 with earnings of $137,176. He was sold for $2,000 by Janie Roper, Agent, at the 2008 Fall Mixed Sale.

Glen, Todd & Patrick Kinsella’s St Liams Halo made it two straight stakes wins on Friday at Hastings Park, taking the $51,900 Lieutenant Governor’s Handicap by a length. Sold for $50,000 by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, at the 2009 OBS April Sale, the 4-year-old gelding by Saint Liam now has four straight wins, a 10-4-4-0 record and $120,119 in earnings
