El Gato Malo wins Lone Star Derby
West Point Thoroughbreds’ El Gato Malo got back on the winning track Saturday, rallying in the stretch to win the $400,000 Lone Star Derby (G3) by half a length, with fellow OBS graduate Samba Rooster (March ’07, January ’06) another nose back in third. It’s the second graded stakes win this year for the 3-year-old El Corredor gelding, consigned by M & H Training and Sales, Agent, to the 2007 OBS March Sale. He’s now 6-4-1-0 and has earned $440,200. more

Game Face captures Churchill's La Troienne Stakes
Zabeel Racing International’s Game Face squeezed through an opening on the inside in the stretch run of the $168,450 La Troienne Stakes on Derby Day at Churchill Downs, and she got up to win her second graded stakes race of the year by a neck. Sold by O & H Bloodstock (Terry Oliver and Bo Hunt), Agent, for $280,000 at the 2007 OBS March Sale, the 3-year-old filly by Menifee is now 6-3-2-1 with $238,352 in earnings. more

Ginger Punch leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Churchill's Louisville Handicap
Stronach Stables’ champion Ginger Punch took another step in defending her division title on Oaks Day at Churchill Downs, leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $268,200 Louisville Handicap (G2). Leah’s Secret (August ’04) was 3-3/4 lengths back in second and it was 2-1/2 lengths back to Lear’s Princess (March ’06) in third. That’s two stakes wins in three starts this year for the 5-year-old Florida-bred mare by Awesome Again, who went through the ring at the 2005 Adena Springs Sale. She’s now 17-9-5-2 and has earned $2,275,603 to date. more
