William Kaplan will saddle Calico Bay, a Florida-bred daughter of Three Wonders, and she will be ridden by Manoel Cruz. She was fourth in the Tropical Park Oaks on New Year’s Day in her first start of the year. Pennington III’s multiple stakes winner We’re In The Money, trained by Ollie Figgins III and ridden by regular rider Gerald Olmodovar. The winner of the race will also receive a non-transferable 2008 or 2009 season to Darley stallion Rockport Harbor, who stands for a $20,000 stud fee. The Florida-bred daughter of Awesome Again, trained by Rafael Ramos, comes into the race off a victory in the seven furlong Gasparilla Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on January 19. Irwin Rosendo, who has ridden her in all three of her starts, will be aboard. Three fillies have been supplemented to the race by their connections: Jonathan Dean and Daystar Farm’s Pickpocket Patty, Caroni Stable’s Orinoquia and Orson and Kathy Oliver’s Cow Creek Cat. Pickpocket Patty, trained by Barry Kirkham and ridden by Jose Lezcano, comes into the race off a 6-1/2 length maiden win at Turfway Park. Bishop’s Surrealdeal and Zayat Stables’ Jazz Nation headline a field of nine in the six furlong $75,000 Darley OBS Sprint Stakes, for 3-year-old colts and geldings who have gone through the ring at an OBS sale. Surrealdeal, by Awesome Again, comes into the race off a strong second in Gulfstream’s Swale Stakes (G2) on February 2. Trained by Thomas R. Schell, he’ll be ridden by Manoel Cruz. Jazz Nation, second last fall in Monmouth’s Favorite Trick Breeders’ Cup Stakes, was beaten a nose in his 3-year-old debut in a Gulfstream allowance race on January 12. He’s trained by Reade Baker and will be ridden by Elvis Trujillo Hooties Racing, Moss Racing and Kevin Mullikin’s Ben and the Twin ships in to OBS off a fourth place finish in the Dixieland Stakes at Oaklawn Park. The 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Concerto has racked up $389,950 in earnings, with his last stakes score coming Calder’s Radar Love Stakes last November. Trained by Javier Negrete, he’s looking to make amends for a sub par effort in the recent Sunshine Millions Sprint at Gulfstream. He’ll carry top weight of 122 pounds and regular rider Eduardo Nunez will be in the saddle. He could face a tough challenge from Walter R. Donnelly’s Straight Faced, working smartly for trainer Stephen L. DiMauro towards a return to the races after a one year vacation since he was off the board in Gulfstream’s Spectacular Bid Stakes. The 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Straight Man won three stakes at two, including two legs of the Florida Stallion Stakes series. He’ll carry 113 pounds and Edgar Prado has the riding assignment. Thorobeam Farm and Henry Mast’s Mr. Silver could be tough in the Charities Stakes for trainer Eddie Plesa.
