3/17/10 Hip No. 323, a Giant’s Causeway colt consigned by All In Sales (Tony Bowling), Agent, was purchased for $425,000 by Hidden Brook, Agent for Paul Pompa, Jr. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 3/5, is out of Twenty Eight Carat, by Alydar, and a is a half brother to grade one stakes winner A P Valentine. Robert Sahn, Stanley Hough, Agent, went to $400,000 for Hip No. 310, a colt by Indian Charlie consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent. The bay colt, out of stakes winner Teak Totem, by Northern Afleet, worked a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show Hip No. 282, a Badge of Silver filly consigned by Leprechaun Racing, Agent, was sold to Patrice Miller, EQB Inc., Agent, for $375,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance Sunday, is out of Silver Bride, by Runaway Groom, is a half sister to stakes winner Hallway. Mark Casse, Agent, went to $370,000 for Hip No. 221, a Malibu Moon filly consigned by Old South Farm. Out of stakes placed Perfect Quiet, by Quiet American, the chestnut filly breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Hip No. 259, a filly by Badge of Silver consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to LRK, Inc., for $325,000. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Royal Veagess, by Rock Royalty, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Skipping Around. Eisaman also sold Hip No. 201, Noble Exchange, for $325,000, a colt by Exchange Rate whose quarter in :21 flat was the Sunday session’s fastest at the distance. Out of Social Scene, by Tabasco Cat, the gray or roan colt is a half brother to stakes placed Winsome Charm. For the session, 84 horses brought a total of $9,685,000, compared with 93 horses selling for a total of $9,151,000 at last year’s second session. The average price was $115,298, up 17.2% from $98,398 a year ago, while the median price was $80,000, up 23% from $65,000 in 2009. The buyback percentage 26.9%; it was 43.9% last year. For the entire sale, 171 horses grossed $18,341,000 compared with 206 horses selling fro a total of $19,971,000 in 2009. The average price was $107,257, up 10.6% from $96,947 a year ago while the median price was $80,000, up 16.8% from $68,500 in 2009. The buyback percentage was 27.8%; it was 42.5% last year. Twenty eight horses sold for $200,000 or more, identical to 2009’s total. The next sale at OBS is the Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, set for April 19th through April 22nd with Under Tack Shows scheduled for April 13th through 16th. |

The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Call Your Beau, by Caller I.D., a half sister to champion Hasten to Add. Hip No. 10, a Mr. Greeley colt consigned by Harris Training Center, Agent, was sold to Equix LLC, Agent, for $260,000. Out of stakes placed Air Marshall, by Silver Deputy, the chestnut colt worked a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show. Hip No. 149, a colt by E Dubai consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Stonestreet Stables LLC for $260,000. Stonestreet also bought Hip No. 77, Kantharos, a colt by Lion Heart consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, for $250,000. Out of Contessa Halo, by Southern Halo, the chestnut colt, who worked a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, is a half brother to graded stakes winner Ikigai. Steve Asmussen went to $250,000 for Hip No. 119, Flexnow, a colt by Tiznow consigned by Leprechaun Racing, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 3/5, is out of Fleas Louise, by Storm Cat, a half sister to stakes placed Acajou. For the day, 87 horses sold for a total of $8,656,000 compared with 113 horses grossing $10,820,000 at last year’s opening session. 3/14/10 It’s the first stakes win for 2009 OBS March graduate Odysseus, who appeared to drop out of contention on the far turn, but rallied in the stretch and drove between horses to put his nose on the wire first in his final stride. The win gives the 3-year-old Malibu Moon colt a 4-3-1-0 record and earnings of $219,920. He was sold by Nick de Meric, Agent, at last year’s March Sale. It was the fifth straight win for Diva Delite, who captured her first graded stakes race by two lengths over fellow OBS graduate C C’s Pal (October ’07) with Mallory Square (April ’09, with a half sister by Grand Slam selling Tuesday in the March Sale) another half length back in third. The win gives the Florida-bred filly by Repent a sweep of the Tampa Bay Downs stakes series for 3-year-old fillies, improving her record to 15-8-4-2 and boosting her bankroll to $285,066. She was sold first by Legacy Bloodstock at the 2008 OBS August Sale before bringing $35,000 when purchased out of the Jimmy Miranda consignment at the 2009 OBS April Sale. It was also the first stakes win for Phola, a 4-year-old daughter of Johannesburg consigned by Nick de Meric, Agent, to the 2008 March Sale. The 4-1/4 length victory gives her a 10-4-2-2 record and $194,545 in earnings. |

2/26/10 Champion OBS March graduates Stardom Bound and Forever Together are pictured on the catalog’s front cover while 2009 grade one winners Homeboykris and Game Face grace the back cover. The catalog features siblings to several promising three-year-olds who have taken the first steps on the road to the 2010 classics. Conveyance, winner of last Saturday’s Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park has a half brother by Stormy Atlantic in the sale, and Southwest runner-up Dublin’s half brother by Vindication is cataloged as well. Quiet All American by Forest Camp, winner of the recent OBS Championship Stakes, has a full brother in the sale, as does Dixie Union’s Dixie Commander, an OBS graduate as well and winner of last week’s Turf Paradise Derby. The chestnut colt is out of Debit Or Credit, by Cat Thief, a half sister to graded stakes winner Alke. He worked a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, the session’s co-fastest at the distance. Let’s Go Stables went to $400,000 for Hip No. 84, a Harlan’s Holiday filly consigned by Ocala Stud. Out of stakes winner Burn Brightly, by American Chance, the dark bay or brown filly, whose quarter in :21 flat was the Under Tack Show’s co-fastest at the distance, is a half sister to stakes winner Dream of Angels. Amy E. Tarrant also purchased Hip No. 52, a Rockport Harbor filly consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent. The gray or roan filly, who worked a quarter in :21 4/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes placed Truart, by Yes It’s True. 2/15/10 Supplemented for $7,500 to the race by West Point, the colt by Forest Camp was trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Victor Lebron. It’s the first stakes win for the winner, sold for $225,000 by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne) Agent, at the 2009 OBS February Sale. He’s now 5-2-0-1 with $86,610 in earnings. West Point took last year’s OBS Championship fpr fillies with Fitz Just Right. Charles H. Deters’ Splendid Sound was third in her only start before the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for 3-year old fillies, but after staying near the early lead under Eibar Coa, shook loose leaving the backstretch and continued on to score her first win by three lengths. Henco, Inc., The Four Horsemen Racing Stable and Ron Beda’s Miss Olivia Rae settled for second with early pacesetter Volare Cantare hanging on for third. The time for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:45 2/5. Trained by Bill White, who saddled Cape Royale to win last year’s OBS Championship for colts, the 3-year-old filly by Trippi was bred in Florida by Phyllis Dudley and sold for $90,000 by Janie Roper, Agent, at the 2008 OBS August Yearling Sale. Now 2-1-0-1, she has earned $62,340 to date. In the afternoon’s first race, The $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, Denholtz Stables’ Dances With Ashley swung out for the drive under Jermaine Bridgmohan, took command a furlong out and drew away to a 2-1/2 length victory over Kuehne Racing’s Omega Girl, with M & H Stables’ Robtadi a neck back in third. Trained by Marty Wolfson, the daughter of Wildcat Heir, bred in Florida by Brambly Lane Farm and Steve Dwoskin, ran the six furlongs in 1:10 2/5. She was sold first by Peggy Dellheim, Agent, at the 2007 OBS Fall Mixed Sale before being sold by Casse Sales, Agent, for $125,000 at the 2009 OBS February Sale. Her first stakes victory gives her a 4-3-0-0 record and $62,440 in earnings. In the $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings, Donald L. Ming’s Gary D tracked the early lead through a swift first quarter in :21 1/5, took over on the turn and opened up a big lead after a half in :43 4/5, then coasted home to a 3-3/4 length victory under Jesse Garcia, running the six furlongs in 1:09 4/5. WinStar Farm LLC’s Chief Counsel rallied to be second and Robert T. Hall’s Evening Concerto checked in third. The son of Successful Appeal was consigned by Best a Luck Farm, Agent to the 2009 OBS March Sale. He’s now 4-2-0-1 and has earned $44,485. |
2/14/10 B.J. Wright’s Jeranimo picked a good spot for his first stakes win, scoring by a length and a quarter in Santa Anita’s $200,000 Strub Sakes (G2). It’s the second win in three starts this year for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Congaree, sold for $50,000 by On Course Sales, Agent, at the 2007 OBS August Yearling Sale. The win gives him an 11-3-3-2 record and earnings of $264,600. Westrock Stables’ Decelerator scored her second stakes victory on Saturday, taking the $75,000 Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park by a length. Sold for $250,000 by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2009 OBS February Sale, the 3-year-old daughter of Dehere is now 9-3-3-0 with earnings of $207,277. Barbara Vivian & Dominic Vitesse’s Diva Delite made it two straight Tampa Bay Downs stakes wins Saturday, scoring by 1-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Miss Aristocrat in the $70,000 Suncoast Stakes. That’s four straight wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Repent, sold first by Legacy Bloodstock at the 2008 OBS August Sale before bringing $35,000 when purchased out of the Jimmy Miranda consignment at the 2009 OBS April Sale. 2/1/10 William D. Bennett and Carl Bowling’s Acting Zippy is two for two this year and a graded stakes winner after a frontrunning neck decision in Saturday’s $197,000 John B. Connally Turf Handicap (G3) at Sam Houston. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by City Zip, now 31-10-7-4 with earnings of $574,228. He was sold for $100,000 by Solitary Oak, Agent, at the 2007 OBS March Sale. Funky Munky Stable LLC’s Hold That Prospect got her 2010 campaign off to a good start, scoring her first stakes win with a 7-1/2 length romp in Aqueduct’s $63,700 Correction Stakes on Saturday. Sold for $25,000 by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Hold That Tiger is now 26-12-2-2 with earnings of $293,192. Rosemarie Kesselring’s Lady Alexander bounced right to the lead at the start of Saturday’s $59,000 Manatee Stakes and stayed there all the way en route to a 1-3/4 length victory. That gives the 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Exchange Rate three stakes wins, a 12-5-2-2 record and $198,058 in earnings. Consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock (Brent and Crystal Fernung), Agent, the 6-year-old chestnut mare, out of Share the Fun, by Deputy Minister, is a half sister to stakes placed Cape Good Hope. Hip No. 211, a colt by Vindication consigned by Pleasant Crest Farm, was sold to Just For Fun Stables for $21,000.The dark bay or brown colt is out of Majestically, by Gone West, a daughter of stakes winner Darling Dame. For the session, 194 horses sold for a total of $727,300, compared with 174 horses bringing a total of $672,400 in last year’s Open session. The chestnut filly, out of Witchful Saint, by Saint Ballado, is a half sister to stakes placed How Bout Tonight. Hip No. 42, a yearling colt by D’wildcat consigned by Mecco Sales (Mary Ellen Coenen), Agent, was sold to B & B Partners for $42,000. The chestnut colt is out of stakes placed Miss Bambee Belle, by Ascot Knight. For the session, 94 horses sold for a total of $918,700, compared with 168 horses grossing $1,450,200 at the corresponding session in 2009. The average price was $9,773, up 13.2% from $8,632 last year while the median price rose to $5,100, up 24.3% from $4,100 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 31.8%; it was 27.9% in 2009. 1/19/10 Kodiak Kowboy earned the title with four graded stakes wins, including the Carter Handicap (G1 and Vosburgh Stakes (G1) and ended his championship season by closing relentlessly and winning the Cigar Mile (G1) going away by three quarters of a length. The 5-year-old son of Posse, sold for $70,000 by Burleson Farms, Agent, at the 2006 OBS August Sale, goes to stud with a 23-11-4-3 record and earnings of $1,663,363. She Be Wild opened the year with a pair of stakes wins in Chicago, notably the Arlington-Washington Lassie (G3) in September. After settling for second in Keeneland’s Alcibiades Stakes (G1) she got through on the inside in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita, and held on to win by three-quarters of a length and earned a championship. The daughter of Offlee Wild ended her juvenile campaign 5-4-1-0 with earnings of $1,311,040. |

Consigned by Live Oak Stud, the dark bay or brown mare is out of stakes winner Mepache and is a full sister to graded stakes winners Valid Expectations and Little Sister. Hip No. 336, a weanling filly by Congrats consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Albert Davis for $30,000. The chestnut filly is out of Baby Nance, by Hennessy, a daughter of stakes winner Code Blum. For the final session, 169 horses sold for a total of $888,300, averaging $5,256, with a $3,000 median price.
