Tower of Texas takes Woodbine’s Labeeb Stakes

Thomas Van Meter II and Scott Dilworth’s Tower of Texas was last of four in the early going of Woodbine’s $116,000 Labeeb Stakes on Saturday, rallied on the outside to reach contention, took over a furlong from home and scored by half a length. It’s the third stakes win for the 6-year-old gelding by Street Sense, trained by Roger Attfield, now 26-6-8-4 with $806,289 in earnings. Kendall E. Hansen M.D. and Skychai Racing LLC’s Fast and Accurate stalked the leader in Saturday’s $75,000 Showing Up Stakes at Gulfstream Park West, fought his way to the front in the stretch and eased away late to win by three quarters of a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Hansen, trained by Mike Maker, winner of the Spiral Stakes (G3) at Turfway Park in March. Now 11-4-1-1 with earnings of $401,942, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before he was purchased for $85,000 from Wavertree Stables, Inc. Jordan V. Wycoff’s Desert Duchess rallied on the turn to take charge of Gulfstream Park West’s $75,000 Cellars Shiraz Stakes on Saturday and then drew off down the stretch to post a 3-3/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old filly by Hard Spun, consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale where she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Also trained by Mike Maker, she’s now 14-5-3-2 and has earned $239,660 to date.  watch her under tack video
