La Coronel captures Keeneland’s Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes

John C. Oxley’s La Coronel took the lead at the start of the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1) at Keeneland on Saturday and never gave it up, holding on gamely and scoring by half a length. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Colonel John, purchased for $375,000 out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2016 OBS April Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Trained by Mark Casse, she’s now 12-5-2-0 and has earned $754,844. watch her under tack video

Calumet Farm’s Beautiful Shot is two for two and a stakes winner after coming from off the pace in Sunday’s $73,405 Speakeasy Stakes at Santa Anita, running past front-running fellow OBS graduate Mourinho (March ’17) in deep stretch and winning by a length and a quarter. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Trappe Shot, trained by Keith Desormeaux, has earned $78,080 to date. He breezed an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 before he was purchased for $105,000 out of the Southern Chase Farm consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale.  watch his under tack video
