Untrapped takes Remington’s Oklahoma Derby

Michael Langford’s Untrapped sat just off the pace in Sunday’s $400,000 Oklahoma Derby (G3) at Remington Park, moved to the leaders on the outside down the stretch and drew off late to win by a length and three quarters. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Trappe Shot, on the board in five graded stakes earlier this year. Now 10-2-3-3 for trainer Steve Asmussen, he has earned $601,755 to date. After turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 prior to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he was purchased for $125,000 by Mr. Langford out of the Crupi’s New Castle Farm consignment.  watch his under tack video

OBS graduates accounted for three other stakes victories on the Oklahoma Derby card:

Ciaglia Racing, Exline-Border, Gulliver Racing, Sharon Alesia, Christensen, and Legan’s champion Champagne Room, away from the races since February, returned in style in the $220,000 Remington Park Oaks. The 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner took the lead at the start and never looked back, coasting to a 3-3/4 length victory. That’s three stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Broken Vow, purchased for $310,000 by Larry Zap, Agent for Joseph Ciaglia, Jr. out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2016 April Sale after speeding a quarter in :20 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. William & Corrinne Heiligbrodt’s Golden Mischief came from fourth in a field of five in the $55,000 Flashy Lady Stakes, closing stoutly down the stretch and getting up late to win by a neck. It’s the fourth stakes victory for the 3-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 15-6-3-0 with earnings of $355,830 to date. Jordan V. Wycoff’s Gianna’s Dream captured her fourth stakes win in the $75,000 Ricks Memorial Stakes, taking command a furlong from home and easing away to a 1-1/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Joyous Thunder (August ’14) settled for third. The 4-year-old Twirling Candy filly was sold for $42,000  by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent, at the 2014 OBS August Selected Yearling Sale. Now 16-8-1-4 for trainer Mike Maker, she’s has earned $323,791. Kaleem Shah’s Run Away came charging from well off the pace in Saturday’s $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes at Los Alamitos and was up in the final strides to win by a head, with fellow OBS graduate Crazy Uncle Rick (June ’17, August ’16) checking in third. That’s four wins in five starts for the 2-year-old colt by Run Away and Hide, winner of Del Mar’s Best Pal Stakes (G2). He’s now 5-4-0-1 with $304,400 in earnings for trainer Simon Callaghan. He was purchased for $35,000 out of the Bill Murphy consignment at the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Team D’s Get Jets circled horses on the turn in Belmont’s $125,000 Ashley T. Cole Stakes on Sunday, reached the leaders in the final furlong and held off a late challenge to win by a nose. That’s two straight stakes wins and three overall for the 4-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, trained by Anthony Dutrow, now 11-6-3-0 with $525,850 in earnings. He was purchased for $300,000 by Team D out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2015 OBS April Sale after working in eighth in :11 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video
