Giant Expectations takes Del Mar’s Pat O’Brien Stakes

Exline-Border Racing LLC and Gatto Racing LLC’s Giant Expectations circled horses on the turn to reach contention in Saturday’s $201, 725 Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) at Del Mar, caught fellow OBS graduate Calculator (April ’14) in the final sixteenth and beat him to the wire by a length and a half. It was the stakes debut for the 4-year-old colt by Frost Giant, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $135,000 by Ryan Exline out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2015 OBS March Sale. Trained by Peter Eurton, he’s now 10-3-3-1 and has earned $253,200 to date. watch his under tack video

Team D’s Get Jets came from well off the pace in Friday’s $150,00 West Point Stakes at Saratoga, rallied wide to reach the lead a sixteenth from home and scored by half a length over the late running fellow OBS gradate Offering Plan (April ’14).  It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, purchased for $300,000 by Team D out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2015 OBS April Sale after working in eighth in :11 flat at the Under Tack Show. Now 10-5-3-0 for trainer Anthony Dutrow, he has earned $450,850 to date. watch his under tack video

Gold Square LLC’s Aveenu Malcainu is two for two and a stakes winner after stalking the leaders in Saratoga’s $200,000 Funny Cide Stakes on Friday, taking the lead in deep stretch and easing away to a 2-1/2 length victory. Trained by Jeremiah Englehart, the 2-year-old colt by Into Mischief has earned $163,800. Consigned by SBM Training and Sales, Agent, to the 2017 OBS April Sale, he sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 before he was purchased for $150,000 by Gene Parrotta, Agent for Gold Square LLC. watch his under tack video

Hronis Racing LLC’s Shenandoah Queen tried stakes company for the first time in Friday’s $101,045 Tranquility Lake Stakes at Del Mar, took command turning for home, opened up daylight in the stretch and held off a late bid to win by three quarters of a length. The 5-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes is now 11-5-1-2 for trainer John Sadler, and has earned $111,300. A two-time OBS graduate, she was sold by Casse Sales LLC (Justin Casse), Agent at the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale before she went through the ring at the 2014 March Sale, consigned by Northwest Stud, Agent for Inversiones Fl.
