Unbeaten Coal Front captures Saratoga’s Amsterdam Stakes

Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front is three for three and a graded stakes winner after leading from gate to wire and taking Saratoga’s $200, 000 Amsterdam Stakes (G2) by a length and a half over fellow OBS graduate Excitations (April ’16). Consigned by Kirkwood Stables, Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he sped a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show before he was purchased for $575,000 by Steven W. Young on behalf of Mr. LaPenta. Unraced at two, the 3-year-old colt by Stay Thirsty, trained by Todd Pletcher, has earned $216,000 to date. watch his under tack video

One race earlier on the card, Todd Pletcher sent Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ El Dulce out for his debut in an $83,000 maiden special weight test on the turf course. The 2-year-old colt by Twirling Candy took the lead at the start and led every step of the way, winning by a neck and earning $49,800 after running 5-1/2 furlongs in 1:02 4/5. He was purchased for $200,000 out of the Robert Brewer consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after turning in an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.  watch his under tack video
