OBS grads Irap, Overture sweep Indiana Derby and Oaks

Reddam Racing LLC’s Irap circled horses on the turn to take command of Saturday’s $500, 000 Indiana Derby (G3) at Indiana Grand Race Course, then drew away in the stretch to an easy five length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Untrapped (April ’16) checked in third. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Tiznow, winner of the Ohio Derby (G3) in his last start and the Blue Grass Stakes (G2) in April. Consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased by Dennis O’Neill for $300,000. Now 11-3-3-1 for trainer Doug O’Neill, he has earned $1,357,600 to date.  watch his under tack video

WinStar Farm’s Overture tried stakes company for the first time in Indiana Grand’s $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3), took the lead at the start, and was never headed en route to victory by a length. The 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Congrats, trained by Bill Mott, is now 5-2-2-1 and has earned $168,080. Consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale, she sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show before going to WinStar for $385,000. watch her under tack video

Twin Creeks Racing Stables, LLC’s Pure Silver is two for two and a stakes winner after overcoming an awkward break at the start of Saturday’s $100,000 Lynbrook Stakes at Belmont Park. The 2-year-old daughter of Mission Impazible recovered, took the lead quickly and stayed there to the wire, scoring by a length and a half. Consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, to the 2017 OBS March Sale, she breezed an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Trained by Todd Pletcher, she has earned $97,200.  watch her under tack video

Steve Laymon, William G. Robbins & Richard F. Broadbent IV et al’s Lipstick City rallied wide to reach contention at the top of the stretch in Saturday’s $79,000 Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park, ran past the leaders in the final furlong and scored by 2-1/2 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Majestic Bonnie (April ’16). It’s the first stakes win for the lightly raced 3-year-old filly by City Zip, trained by Chad Brown, now 6-2-1-0 with $100,699 in earnings. After turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 prior to the 2016 OBS March Sale, she was purchased out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment for $165,000. watch her under tack video

Erin Gonzalez and Tim Archuleta’s General Council got off to a fast start in Saturday’s $55,000 Charles Taylor Derby at Albuquerque, opened up daylight quickly and bounded away to an 18-1/2 length victory. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Big Drama,  consigned by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables, LLC, Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale, where he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Now 12-4-1-1 for trainer Jose Gonzalez, Jr., he has earned $72,166. watch his under tack video

Don B. Danard and Curtis Landry’s Ruffenuff  led from gate to wire in Northland Park’s $53,552 Northlands Oaks on Saturday, drawing away late to win by 2-3/4 lengths. That’s four stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Dialed In, consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, where she sped a quarter in :20 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. Now 8-6-0-0 for trainer Greg Tracy, she has earned $114,665 to date. watch her under tack video
