Tower of Texas takes Woodbine’s Connaught Cup Stakes

Thomas Van Meter II and Scott Dilworth’s Tower of Texas grabbed his second graded stakes win in the $196, 750 Connaught Cup Stakes (G2) at Woodbine on Saturday, rallying to catch fellow OBS graduate Commute (August ’13) in the final stride and score by a nose. Idle since October, the 6-year-old gelding by Street Sense, trained by Roger Attfield, is now 21-5-8-3 and has earned $703,956. Ballybritt Stable LLC’s Dynatail set the pace in Penn National’s $200,000 Penn Oaks on Saturday, surrendered the lead briefly in mid-stretch, then came again and eased away late to win by three quarters of a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Hightail, winner of the OBS Championship Stakes in January. Now 10-4-1-2 for trainer Michael Dini, she has earned $225,840 to date. She was consigned to the 2016 June Sale by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Agent, and purchased by Ballybritt for $5,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5. watch her under tack video

Lady Sheila Stable’s Matt King Coal took the lead at the start of Saturday’s $200,000 Mountainview Stakes at Penn National and never looked back en route to a 3-3/4 length victory, running the mile and an eighth in a track record 1:48 4/5. Fellow OBS graduate Discreet Lover (August ’14) checked in third. It’s the second stakes win for the two-time OBS graduate, sold by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa Mc Greevy), Agent, at the 2014 August Selected Yearling Sale before being purchased for $250,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2015 April Sale after working an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Four Horsemen Racing Stable, Inc. and Lady Lindsay Racing Stables’ Sweetontheladies moved on the turn to challenge for the lead in Sunday’s $50,000 Crystal River Handicap at Gulfstream, took charge after turning for home and drew off late to win by a length and a quarter. It’s the second stakes score for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Twirling Candy, consigned to the 2016 OBS April Sale by Old South Farm LLC, Agent, where he breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased for $25,000. Farfellow Farm Ltd.’s Concealedwithakiss took command of Friday’s $50,000 Ana T. Handicap at Gulfstream on the turn, opened a big lead in the lane and coasted to a length and a half victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old mare by Political Force, sold for $22,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2014 OBS June Sale after she breezed and eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Keith Plaisance’s Pacific Pink rallied wide on the turn in Friday night’s $75,000 Spotted Horse Stakes at Evangeline Downs, took the lead after straightening away in the stretch and scored by 2-3/4 lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Vieja Luna (April ’15) settling for third. That’s five stakes wins for the 5-year-old daughter of Private Vow, trained by Edward J, Johnston, leaving her with a 20-8-4-6 career record and $421,620 in earnings.
