John C. Oxley’s La Coronel moved to the leaders in the $125, 000 Appalachian Stakes (G3) at Keeneland after straightening away in the stretch, split horses a furlong from home and drew away from there to a 3-1/4 length victory. It’s the second graded stakes win over the Keeneland turf course for the 3-year-old daughter of Colonel John, winner of the Jessamine Stakes (G3) in October, leaving her with a 7-3-1-0 record and earnings of $259,615 for trainer Mark Casse. She was purchased out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment for $375,000 at the 2016 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. watch her under tack video
