Fellow OBS graduate Untrapped (March ’16) rallied to finish third. It was the stakes debut for the 3-year-old colt by Shackleford, trained by Todd Pletcher, who shipped in for the Rebel after winning his first two starts at Gulfstream by a combined 22 lengths. It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old graded stakes placed filly by Daaher, consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC to the 2014 OBS March Sale and sold to Cheyenne Stables for $150,000 after an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Lady Sheila Stable’s Matt King Coal is two for two this year after taking the lead at the start of Saturday’s $75,000 Harrison E. Johnson Memorial Stakes at Laurel, surrendering it briefly to fellow OBS graduate Afleet Willy (June ’15) in mid-stretch then coming again to beat him by a head on the wire. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Cool Coal Man, a two time OBS graduate. He was sold by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa Mc Greevy), Agent, at the 2014 August Selected Yearling Sale before being purchased for $250,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2015 April Sale after working an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.
