Hy Riverside takes the Sunshine Millions Classic

Mar Racing Stable’s Hy Riverside picked a good spot to get his first stakes win, coming with a late surge to take the $200, 000 Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes by a nose. The 5-year-old gelding by Macho Uno, trained by Antonio Sano, is now 16-5-3-2 and has earned $273,790. Consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, to the 2014 OBS April Sale, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased by Mar Racing for $190,000. watch his under tack video

William L. Clifton’s Our Way moved up on the turn of the $100,000 Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes, went after the leaders in the stretch and was up in the final yards to score by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Tizway, purchased for $140,000 out of the Parrish Farms consignment at the 2015 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by H. James Bond, he’s now 11-4-1-2 and has earned $224,484 to date.  watch his under tack video

 

 

Early Entry the Millions Sprint

Tommy Roberts Racing Stable LLC’s Early Entry tracked the early leader in Saturday’s $100,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes into the stretch, stuck his head in front in the final furlong and stayed there to the wire, winning by half a length. Idle since his victory in Gulfstream’s Rail Splitter Stakes last February, the 6-year-old son of Keyed Entry, trained by Kathleen O’Connell, is now 23-9-2-2 and has earned $299,742. A two time OBS graduate, he was sold as a weanling by TdM Sales at the 2011 Fall Mixed Sale then consigned by Boutte Sales to the 2013 March Sale where he worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Reddam Racing LLC’s So Conflated stepped into Saturday’s $100,000 California Derby at Golden Gate fresh off a maiden win in December but had no problem with the raise in class, coming from off the pace with a strong late run that carried him to a three quarter length victory. After two wins and a third in his debut for trainer Doug O’Neill, he has earned $98,640.  Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was purchased by Dennis O’Neill for $70,000. watch his under tack video

Rohan Crighton and Cheryl Baker’s The Money Monster is two for two and a stakes winner after slipping through on the rail in the stretch of the $100,000 Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and scoring by half a length over fellow OBS graduate Chance of Luck (June ’16).  Trained by Rohan Crighton, he has earned $48,000 to date. The 2-year-old colt by Majestic Warrior was consigned to the 2016 OBS April Sale by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, where he breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 before he was sold for $6,500. watch his under tack video

Louis J. Ulman and Stephen L. Parker’s High Roller took charge of Saturday’s $75,000 Frank Whitely, Jr. Stakes after turning for home and the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton opened up daylight then held off a late charge to win by half a length. Fellow OBS graduate Butch Walker (April ’16) checked in third. It’s his first stakes victory for trainer Dale Capuano and leaves him 4-2-1-1 with earnings of $86,620. A two time OBS graduate, he went through the ring at the 2015 August Sale before he was purchased for $30,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2016 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5.  watch his under tack video

Juan Francisco Landaeta’s Vieja Luna celebrated the upcoming anniversary of her victory in the 2016 OBS Championship Stakes by taking the lead at the start of the $70,000 Eldorato Stakes at Delta Downs and never looking back en route to a 1-1/4 length victory.  After breezing an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show prior to the 2015 OBS April Sale, the newly turned 4-year-old daughter of Street Hero was purchased for $23,000 by Mr. Landaeta out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment. Now trained by Jose Camejo, she’s 19-4-1-3 with two stakes wins and $234,102 in earnings. watch her under tack video

Averill Racing LLC and CCF Racing Stable’s R Angel Katelyn posted her third straight stakes win at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, taking the lead going to the turn of the $86,000 and staying there to the wire, winning by a length and three quarters. Fellow OBS graduate Lirica (January ’15, August ’15) settled for third. Trained by Gerald Bennett, the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of High Cotton is now 5-4-1-0 and has earned $207,120. She was purchased for $50,000 out of the Craig L. Wheeler consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch her under tack video
