Dearest scores in Gulfstream’s Sugar Swirl Stakes

Gelfenstein Farm’s Dearest picked up her first graded stakes win on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. She took charge of the $100, 000 Sugar Swirl Stakes (G3) after half a mile, held off a late run by fellow OBS graduate You Bought Her (April ’12) and won by a length. It’s the third stakes victory of the year for the 3-year-old filly by Midshipman, trained by Gilberto Zerpa, now 7-5-1-1 with $295,550 in earnings. She was purchased for $150,000 at the 2015 OBS March Sale by Gelfenstein out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Mingyeonggeun’s Clean Up Joy took the Grand Prix Stakes (G1) at Seoul Race Track, the fifth time an OBS graduate has won the race. (watch the race video) He joins 2012 winner Gamdonguibada, 2011 winner Tough Win and Dongbanui Gangja, back to back winner  in 2008 and 2009. Clean Up Joy turned back heavy favorite Triple Nine (KOR) by a length a quarter, with Triple Crown winner Power Blade (KOR) settling for third. The 5-year-old gelding by Purge was purchased for $14,000 out of the Grassroots Training & Sales consignment at the 2013 OBS June Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video

Abdullah Saeed Almaddah’s Green Mask sat just off the pace in Saturday’s $50,000 Bonapaw Stakes at Fair Grounds, then came running in the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the well-traveled 5-year-old graded stakes placed Mizzen Mast gelding, purchased for $150,000 out of the Casse Sales LLC (Justin Casse) consignment at the 2013 OBS April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by Brad Cox, he’s now 21-5-5-3 and has earned $600,916. watch his under tack video

William & Corrinne Heiligbrodt’s Golden Mischief circled horses on the turn of the $60,000 Letellier Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds on Saturday, then ran by the leaders in the stretch to take the race by 2-1/4 lengths with fellow OBS graduate Forest Circle (April ’16) checking in third. It the second stakes score for the 2-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, now 8-4-1-0 for trainer Steve Asmussen with $166,730 in earnings. Consigned by SBM Training and Sales, Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale she sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Loooch Racing Stables, G. Ellis, D. Weaver and Imaginary Stables’ War Story scored his first stakes win in emphatic fashion, taking the lead at the start of the $125,000 Queens County Stakes at Aqueduct and drawing away in the stretch to a 7-3/4 length victory. The multiple graded stakes placed 4-year-old gelding by Northern Afleet is now 17-4-3-2 for trainer Mario Serey, Jr. and has earned $559,395 to date. A half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Land Over Sea, he was consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent , to the 2014 OBS March Sale, where he worked an eighth in :10 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video
