Rivers Run Deep three-peats in the Best of Ohio Sprint Stakes

Driver, Ywachetta and Travis’ Rivers Run Deep captured the $150,000 Best of Ohio Sprint Stakes for the third straight year on Saturday at Mahoning Valley Race Course, circling horses to reach contention on the turn and getting up in the final strides to win by a nose. Fellow OBS graduate Candy Bites (April ’12) was another neck back in third. Trained by Chris Hartman, the 5-year-old son of Ready’s Image has racked up eleven stakes wins, compiled a 30-15-8-3 record and earned $860,140 to date. He was sold for $77,000 to Garry Simms, Agent for James Driver, by Rod McVey, Agent, at the 2013 OBS June Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Churchill Downs Racing Club’s Warrior’s Club took the lead at the start of the $150,000 Spendthrift Stallion Stakes on Sunday at Churchill Downs and was never headed on his way to a 2-3/4 length victory. It’s the first win for the 2-year-old colt by Warrior’s Reward, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, now 6-1-1-2 with $107,696 in earnings. Ironhorse Racing LLC’s Bucchero successfully defended his title in Saturday’s $150,000 Too Much Coffee Stakes at Indiana Grand Race Course, leading from gate to wire, scoring by 4-1/2 lengths. That’s three stakes wins for the 4-year-old colt by Kantharos, trained by Tim Glyshaw, now 15-6-4-1 with $396,441 in earnings. Maggi Moss’ Big World rallied to take charge of Friday night’s $100,000 Magnolia Stakes at Delta Downs a furlong from the wire and drew away from there to a 3-1/4 length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the graded stakes winning 3-year-old filly by Custom for Carlos, trained by Tom Amoss, leaving her with a 6-3-0-3 record and $253,600 in earnings. She was consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, to the 2014 OBS August Sale and purchased for $98,000 by Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc., Agent. James M. Miller’s Lovely Bernadette tried stakes company for the first time in the $82,340 Rags to Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs on Sunday and the 2-year-old filly by Wilburn came running in the stretch and scored by half a length. Consigned by Bobby Jones Equine LLC & Santa Fe Thoroughbreds, Agent, to the 2016 OBS June Sale, she breezed a quarter in :21 4/5 before she was purchased by Mr. Miller for $28,000. Jeffrey Bloom’s A Red Tie Day picked up his first stakes victory Sunday at Santa Anita, turning in a late run to take the lead in deep stretch and win the $94,435 Lure Stakes by a half length. The 6-year-old gelding by Indygo Shiner worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5 before he was sold for $92,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Trained by Richard Baltas, he’s now 18-5-0-4 and has earned $251,308. watch his under tack video
