Champagne Room captures Del Mar’s Sorrento Stakes

Ciaglia Racing LLC, Exline- Border Racing LLC & Alesia et al.’s Champagne Room was a maiden going into Del Mar’s $200, 000 Sorrento Stakes (G2) on Saturday but a graded stakes winner at the wire, rallying to take command in the final sixteenth and scoring by a length and a quarter. Trained by Peter Eurton, she’s now 2-1-1-0 and has earned $132,600 to date. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, the 2-year-old filly by Broken Vow sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 before she was purchased for $310,000 by Larry Zap, Agent for Joseph Ciaglia, Jr.  watch her under tack video

Averill Racing LLC and Silver Oak Stable LLC’s R Kinsley Doll picked up her first stakes win at Gulfstream on Saturday, closing down the stretch and getting up late to win the $150,000 Florida Sire Three Ring Stakes by a length and a quarter, with fellow OBS graduate Dixieland Dudes (March ’15) checking in third. The 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Big Drama, trained by Ralph Ziadie, is now 8-2-2-0 and has earned $148,085.  Consigned by Cary Frommer, Agent, to the 2015 OBS March Sale, she turned in an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Goldmart Farms and Royal Laser Racing’s Kingsport stalked the leaders in Saturday’s $126,200 Shepperton Stakes at Woodbine, came after them in the lane and was up in the final yards to win by  a head. The 4-year-old colt by Milwaukee Brew worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before he was purchased for $45,000 out of the RiceHorse Stables consignment at the 2014 OBS June Sale. Trained by Sid Attard, he’s now 14-5-4-2 and has earned $373,394. watch his under tack video

Robert L. Cole’s 5-year-old Roman Officer tried stakes company for the first time since his juvenile season in the $100,000 West Virginia Legislature Chairman’s Cup Stakes at Mountaineer Park on Saturday.  The son of Roman Ruler found the competition to his liking, taking the lead at the start, opening a big lead in the stretch and coasting to his first stakes victory by a length and a half. Consigned by SAB Sales (Scott A. Bergsrud), Agent, to the 2013 OBS April Sale, he breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 before he was sold for $70,000. Trained by Kevin Patterson, he’s now 33-8-5-4 and has earned $212,062 to date. watch his under tack video

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Watchyourownbobber sat just off the early leader in Saturday’s $100,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker’s Cup Stakes, took over after turning for home and held on gamely to win by three quarters of a length. That’s two straight stakes wins for the graded stakes placed 4-year-old colt by Hard Spun, trained by Michael Maker, now 15-6-3-2 with three stakes victories and earnings of $323,413. He was sold for $62,000 by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Agent, at the 2014 OBS April Sale after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. watch his under tack video

Keith Plaisance’s Calamity Jane scored her first stakes victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Louisiana Cup Distaff Stakes at Louisiana Downs, coming from well off the pace and closing with a rush to win by three quarters of a length. The 3-year-old Cowboy Cal filly is a three time veteran of the OBS sale ring, sold by Select Sales, Agent at the 2014 January Sale before she was resold by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2014 August Sale. She worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show before going through the ring at the 2015 June Sale. Now 11-4-2-3 for trainer Edward J. Kathleen Amaya and Raffaele Centofanti’s Look Into My Eyes took charge of the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Saturday a furlong from home and she cruised from there to a 2-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Smitty’s Cougar (March ’15). It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of City Zip, trained by Efren Loza, Jr., now 12-7-2-1 with $195,560 in earnings. The two time OBS graduate was sold by Pelican State Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2013 January Sale before she went through the ring at the 2014 June Sale after working an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. watch her under tack video
