Dearest heads parade of holiday weekend stakes winners

Gelfenstein Farm’s Dearest posted her second straight stakes win at Gulfstream on Saturday, taking command a quarter mile from home, opening up a big lead in mid-stretch then coasting home a winner of the Azalea Stakes by a length and a half. She was purchased for $150,000 at the 2015 OBS March Sale by Gelfenstein out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. The 3-year-old graded stakes placed filly by Midshipman, trained by Gilberto Zerpa, is now 5-4-0-1 and has earned $173,550. watch her under tack video

Although Black Hawk Stable’s Alsvid broke a step slowly in Saturday’s $67,700 Kelly’s Landing Stakes at Churchill Downs, the graded stakes winning millionaire recovered quickly, took the early lead and was never headed en route to a 1-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Schivarelli (April ’13). It’s the eleventh stakes win for the 7-year-old son of Officer, trained by Chris Hartman, now 43-15-11-7 with $1,274,618 in earnings. He was sold for $55,000 by Stephens Thoroughbreds, Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Drawing Away Stable’s Doctor J Dub was ignored at 28-1 going into Saturday’s $75,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park, but he went right to the front and stayed there until the wire, holding off a stretch-long challenge to win by a neck. It’s the first stakes win for the 6-year-old gelding by Sharp Humor, sold for $195,000 at the 2012 OBS March Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, after he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Jena Antonucci, he’s now 22-5-5-4 and has earned $129,205 to date. watch his under tack video

Sequel Racing’s Haveyougoneaway relaxed off the early pace in Sunday’s $100,000 Dancin Renee Stakes at Belmont Park, rolled up in the outside turning for home, made the lead in the final furlong and drew away to win by 2-3/4 lengths. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Congrats, now trained by Thomas Morley, and leaves her with a 24-9-4-6 record and $502,425 in earnings. John Carver, Jerry Hollendorfer and Green Smith’s Outside Nashville scored his second stakes win of the year in Monday’s $65,900 Oak Tree Sprint Stakes, coming from far off the pace to take the lead a sixteenth from home and drawing off to win by a length and a half. That’s six stakes wins for the 6-year-old gelding by Broken Vow, sold by Eisaman Equine, Agent, for $115,000 to Hollendorfer and Smith at the 2012 OBS March Sale after working  an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, he’s now 34-9-5-5 and has earned $390,805.  watch his under tack video

Stirrup Trouble LLC’s Temple Fur came after front-running fellow OBS graduate First Illusion (August ’14) in the stretch of the $75,000 Betsy Ross Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Monday, took over at the eighth pole and beat her to the wire by 3-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Temple City, trained by Jessica Campitelli, now 8-4-1-0 with $109,970 in earnings. Consigned by Woodside Ranch, Agent, to the 2015 OBS April Sale, he worked a quarter in :21 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

J and G Racing Stable’s Don’t Hold Me Back picked up his first stakes win on Friday in the $75,000 Lieutenant Governor’s Handicap at Hastings Park, rallying to take over a furlong from home and scoring by half a length at 29-1. The 4-year-old gelding by Hold Me Back, trained by Steve Henson, is now 20-4-1-2 and has earned $92,465. Consigned by Winners Circle Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, to the 2014 OBS April Sale, he was sold for $100,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video
