Bitumen, Random Walk one-two in Saratoga’s Sanford Stakes

Joseph W. Sutton’s Bitumen dropped off the pace in the early going of the $150, 000 Sanford Stakes (G3) at Saratoga on Saturday, circled horses to reach contention turning for home, took over leaving the eighth pole and scored by a length and three quarters over fellow OBS graduate Random Walk (March ’16). Two for two with earnings of $117,900 for trainer Eddie Kenneally, the 2-year-old colt by Mineshaft was purchased for $280,000 by Barry Berkelhammer, Agent, out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2016 OBS March Sale after he breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. watch his under tack video

Michael Lay, Mike Loughry and D Mac Racing Stable’s Puntrooskie scored his first graded stakes win in Woodbine’s $150,600 Bold Venture Stakes (G3) on Saturday, battling to the lead in the stretch and holding on gamely for a half length decision. The 6-year-old Florida bred son of In Summation, trained by Donald MacRae, now has two stakes victories, a 29-5-6-5 record and $361,969 in earnings. He was sold for $62,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2013 OBS June Sale after working an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5. watch his under tack video

J. Kirk and Judy Robison’s Front Pocket Money tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $101,000 Jersey Shore Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park. The 3-year-old colt by Uncle Mo took the lead at the break and held it to the wire, turning back a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Yellow Chips and scoring by three quarters of a length. Sold for $67,000 by Highbury Farm at the 2014 OBS Winter Mixed Sale, he’s now 5-3-1-0 with earnings of $152,050 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
