Gemologist colt tops Spring Sale’s second session

Hip No. 564, a gray or roan colt by Gemologist consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent, went to Lane’s End Bloodstock for $550,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The half brother to stakes winners Glitter City and Here’s Johnny, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Bon Caro, by Bon Point (GB).

Hip No. 517, a son of Overdriven consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold to Peter Miller, Agent, for $525,000.  The gray or roan colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Back to Basics, by Alphabet Soup, and is a half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Calculator, second in the recent Carter Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct.

Hip No. 469, a gray or roan filly by Speightstown consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc., (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Linda Rice, Agent for $440,000. A half sister to graded stakes winner Alpha Kitten out of Alpha Mama, by Unbridled’s Song, she worked an eighth in :10 flat at Wednesday’s Under Tack Session.

Mike Ryan, Agent, went to $400,000 for Hip No. 404, a daughter of High Cotton consigned by Ocala Stud. The bay filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 2/5 at last Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is out of West Side Dancer, by Gone West, and is a half sister to graded stakes winners Discreet Dancer and Travelin Man.

Hip No. 395, a son of Macho Uno consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, went to Rockingham Ranch for $335,000.  The chestnut colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 at Tuesday’s Under Tack session was the day’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Wadena, by Saint Ballado, and is a half brother to stakes placed Papa Turf.

Hip No. 416, a dark bay or brown colt out by Archarcharch who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Wednesday, was purchased by D. J. Stable LLC for $335,000. Consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, he’s out of graded stakes placed Wild Forest Cat, by D’wildcat, and is a full brother to graded stakes winner Toews On Ice.

Hip No. 463, Savage Battle, a son of War Front consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent, was purchased by Klaravich Stable, Inc. for $320,000.  The bay colt, out of graded stakes placed stakes winner All for Thee, by Elusive Quality, breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Wednesday.

Hip No. 535, a half brother to champion sprinter Runhappy by Lookin At Lucky consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Gary Sciacca, Agent, for $300,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5 last Wednesday, is out of Bella Jolie, by Broken Vow, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Millennium Storm.

For the session, 158 horses grossed $12,119,000, compared with 160 bringing a total of $13,580,700 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $76,703 compared with $84,879 in 2015 while the median was $43,500 compared with $50,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 30.7%; it was 25.2% last year.
