Uncle Mo colt tops March Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 245, a son of Uncle Mo out of grade one stakes placed stakes winner Setareh, by Sky Classic, was sold to Repole Stable and M.V. Magnier for $1,300,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. The dark bay or brown colt, consigned by Cary Frommer, Agent, worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at last Thursday’s Under Tack session.

Al Shaqab Racing, WinStar and China Horse Club went to $850,000 for Hip No. 222, a son of Twirling Candy consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 last Thursday, is a half brother to stakes winner Highway Boss out of Sage Mist, by Henny Hughes.

Hip No. 101, a son of War Front consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Solis and Litt for $675,000. The bay colt, whose eighth in :20 3/5 was co-fastest at the distance at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of grade one stakes winner and champion Maryfield, by Elusive Quality.

MMG Stables LLC paid $625,000 for Hip No. 182, a son of Curlin consigned by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC, Agent. The chestnut colt, who breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat, is out of stakes placed Polly Alexander (IRE), by Foxhound, a half sister to graded stakes winner Medici Code (GB).

Hip No. 155, a son of Bernardini out of stakes winner Onebadkitty, by Street Cry (IRE), was purchased by Town & Country Racing LLC and Spendthrift Farm LLC for $575,000. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, the dark bay or brown colt worked a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 136, son of Lemon Drop Kid consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold for $550,000 to L.E.B. The bay colt, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is out of Motokiks, by Storm Cat, and is a half brother to graded stakes winners, Diversy Harbor, Keertana and Snow Top Mountain.

Hip No. 293, Strange N Startlin, a bay colt by Curlin consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent was sold to Casse & Casse, Agent, for $550,000. Out of Stars Indy Skies, by A.P. Indy, a daughter of graded stakes winner Advancing Star, he worked an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Spendthrift Farm LLC went to $500,000 for Hip No. 145, a bay filly by Into Mischief consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, who turned in an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. She’s out of Narrate, by Medaglia d’Oro, a half sister to graded stakes winner Jill Robin L.

Hip No. 27, a son of Bodemeister out of Indy’s Windy, by A.P. Indy, a half sister to champion Banshee Breeze, was purchased by WinStar and China Horse Club for $435,000. The bay colt, consigned by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Inc., Agent, worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Bob Baffert, Agent, went to $435,000 for Hip No. 31, a son of Quality Road consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay colt, who breezed an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 last Wednesday, is out of stakes placed Inventive, by Dixie Union,

For the session, 160 horses grossed $25,718,500 compared with 169 bringing a total of $30,704,000 last year. The average was $160,741, compared with $181,680 in 2015 while the median price was $115,000, compared with $120,000 at last year’s first session. The buyback percentage was 28.9%; it was 20.6% in 2015.

The March Sale continues on Wednesday, March 16th at 11:00 a.m. with Hip No.’s 307 – 613 set to go through the ring.
