Curlin colt tops Winter Mixed Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 53, a chestnut yearling colt by Curlin consigned by Select Sales, Agent, was sold to Redbud Partnership for $150,000 to top the Consignor Preferred Session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 Winter Mixed Sale. He’s out of stakes placed Tapaline, by Eavesdropper, a half sister to stakes winner Dreamin of Victory.

Tyra Holdings paid $145,000 for Hip No. 108, a yearling daughter of Curlin consigned by Kim Harrison (Top Speed Farm), Agent. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Capote Blues, by Capote, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Blues Street.

Hip No. 3, a dark bay or brown yearling filly by Uncle Mo, consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was purchased by Fox Hill Paso Fino Farm LLC for $110,000. She’s out of Patsy’s Kim, by Dixie Union, a daughter of graded stakes winner Romy.

Hip No. 45, a yearling son of Shanghai Bobby consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Douglas Arnold for $100,000. The dark bay or brown colt, a half brother to graded stakes winner Teuflesberg, is out of St. Michele, by Devil’s Bag.

Hip No. 217, Love You Crazy, consigned by Boutte Sales, Agent, was the session’s highest priced broodmare, going to Maria M. Haire for $85,000. The 12-year-old bay daughter of Touch Gold, in foal to Uncle Mo, is a half sister to stakes placed Sacred Ground, out of stakes winner Moonlight Affair, by Friendly Lover.

Crupi’s New Castle Farm went to $80,000 for Hip No. 61, a yearling daughter of Into Mischief out of Touche de Velours, by Meadowlake. Consigned by Bobby Jones Equine LLC, Agent, the bay filly is a half sister to graded stakes placed The Pharaoh.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 135 horses sold for a total of $2,380,100, compared with 128 horses grossing $2,520,000 in 2015. The average price was $17,630, compared with $19,688 a year ago, while the median price was $8,500 compared with $10,100 last year. The buyback percentage was 31.8%; it was 18.5% last year.

The Winter Mixed Sale continues Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Open Session, followed immediately by the Horses of Racing Age section.
