Unbeaten Elfin Cove impressive in Japan

Kazuko Yoshida’s unbeaten filly Elfin Cove is turning heads in Japan after beating the boys, taking the lead at the break on Saturday at Hanshin Race Course and drawing away in the stretch en route to an easy victory. Xpress Thoroughbreds LLC’s Discreetness scored his first stakes win on Sunday at Remington Park, circling horses on the turn, closing down the stretch and getting up in the last  jump to take the $275,000 Remington Springboard Mile Stakes by a nose. It’s the third win for the 2-year-old colt by Discreet Cat, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before being sold for $105,000 by Royal Thoroughbred International at the 2015 OBS March Sale. Keith Plaisance’s Pacific Pink added the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Stakes to her resume on Saturday at Fair Grounds, fighting her way between horses in deep stretch to take command and winning by three quarters of a length. It’s the fourth stakes win of the year for the 3-year-old daughter of Private Vow, now 10-6-2-2 with $291,300 in earnings for trainer Edward Johnston. Consigned by Robert Brewer to the 2014 OBS April Sale, she was sold to Nick Hines, Agent, for $90,000 after turning in an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video
