Bernardini colt tops OBS Spring Sale’s final session

Hip No. 1100, a son of Bernardini consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to Linda Rice, Agent for Kaitar Racing LLC for $900,000  to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.  The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of graded stakes winner Graeme Six, by Graeme Hall, and is a half brother to stakes placed Cali Star and to promising 3-year-old Delightful Joy, a winner at first asking and favorite in the recent Beaumont Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.

Mark Casse, Agent, went to $750,000 for Hip No. 1073,  Street Gray, a gray or roan Street Cry (IRE) colt  consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent for Golden Legacy Stables. Out of Gharbiah, by Bernardini, a half sister to graded one winner Honey Ryder, his eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at last Friday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 1032, a daughter of Harlan’s Holiday consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was purchased by J.W.S. for $500,000.  The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out is out of Favoritism, by Tiznow, a daughter of graded stakes placed Chaste.

Hip No. 934, Dark Day, a daughter of Bernardini consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, was sold to Up Up & Away Stables for $450,000. The bay filly, whose quarter in :20 4/5 was the fastest work at the distance at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of Dark Sky, by Storm Cat, a full sister to grade one stakes winner Nebraska Tornado.

Hip No. 901, a son of Street Cry (IRE) consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, went to Whispering Oaks Farm for $375,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who turned in a quarter in :21 4/5 last Friday,  is out of Contessa Halo, by Southern Halo, and is a half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Kantharos.

Stonestreet Stables LLC & George Bolton paid $370,000 for Hip No. 1053, a son of Macho Uno consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The gray or roan colt, who breezed a quarter 1n :21 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Forbidden Kiss, by Touch Gold, and is a full brother to graded stakes placed Indulgence.

Hip No. 1075, a bay colt by Tizway out of Gin Running, by Go for Gin was sold to Stan Hough, Agent, for $320,000. Consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, the three quarter brother to graded stakes winners Tizfiz and Fury Kapcori worked an Under Tack eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 1097, a son of Interactif consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, whose quarter in :21 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Saturday’s Under Tack session, went to John Brocklebank, Agent for Dickman Legacy Farm for $310,000. The dark bay or brown colt  is out of Grable, by Dehere, and is a half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Get in Da House.

For the session, 160 two-year-olds sold for a total of $14,054,500, compared with 182 horses bringing $13,242,000 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $87,841, up 20.7% from $72,758 in 2014 while the median was $45,000, a gain of 7.1% above last year’s $42,000 median figure. The buyback percentage was 21.2%; it was 22.5% a year ago.

For the entire sale, 676 horses grossed $53,711,400, compared with 770 youngsters bringing a sale record $56,965,000 a year ago. The average price was a sale record $79,455, up 7.4% over last year’s record $73,981,  while the median figure was $45,000, equaling the sale record set at the 2014 sale. The buyback percentage was 22%; it was 18.2% a year ago. Sixty horses sold for $200,000 or more compared with 52 at the 2014 sale.

The sale topper Hip No. 439, a daughter of Tapit consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, sold to Solis/Litt for an OBS record $1,900,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at last Wednesday’s session of the Under Tack Show, is out of Silver Wolf, by Silver Deputy, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Corinthian.

Next on the OBS agenda is the June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age; set for Tuesday through Friday, June 16 – 19. The Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday through Saturday, June 8 – 13.
