Ekati’s Phaeton takes Gulfstream’s Davona Dale Stakes

Phaedrus Flights LLC’s Ekati’s Phaeton,  ignored at 26-1 in Gulfstream’s $200, 000 Davona Dale Stakes (G2), took the lead at the start and refused to give it up, holding off two late challengers and scoring by a neck. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Tale of Ekati, trained by Bill Kaplan, leaving her now 7-4-1-0 with earnings of $241,840. A two time OBS graduate, she was purchased by Phaedrus Flights for $50,000 out of the Select Sales consignment at the 2013 August Yearling Sale. Consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, to the 2014 March Sale, she worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.  Selected Sale photo        watch her under tack video

J and J Stables and GSP Racing Stable’s Jewel of a Cat went wire to wire in Gulfstream’s $75,000  Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes, posting a half length victory with fellow OBS graduate Zamquick (April ’11, January ’10) checking in third. It’s the third stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Wildcat Heir, sold for $40,000 by Bo Hunt, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Ben Perkins, she’s now 16-5-5-2 and has earned $310,050 to date.  watch her under tack video

 

Kagele Brothers, Inc., Ernest Marchosky, Ken Shaw and Lo Hi Stable’s Why Two jumped from a Santa Anita maiden win in January straight to Saturday’s $75,000 Turf Paradise Derby, went to the lead at the start and never looked back en route to a one length victory. The 3-year-old Bob and John colt is trained by Mike Machowsky, who bought him for $120,000 from Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, at the 2014 OBS April Sale after her breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat.  After two wins from three starts, he’s earned $82,065. watch his under tack video

Edward J.  Brown, Jr., Alan Klein and Phillip Lebherz’s Distinctiv Passion put his speed to good use in Sunday’s $74,284 Joe Hernandez Stakes at Santa Anita, leading all the way and finishing in front by 4-1/4 lengths. Fellow OBS graduate Chief Lion (January ’11) was third. It’s the third stakes win for the Jeff Bonde trainee, now 15-7-1-4 with $393,600 in earnings. A two-time OBS graduate, the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of With Distinction was sold first by Kaizen Sales, Agent for Plumley Farms, at the 2011 OBS January Sale before bringing $65,000 when purchased out of the Kim Harrison consignment at the 2011 OBS August Sale.  Selected Sale conformation photo

Richard Perkins & Hinsley Racing Stable’s You Bought Her picked up her first stakes win at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday, circling horses on the turn then running past the leaders in the lane for a half length victory in the $50,000 Minaret Stakes. Fellow OBS graduate Puddifoot (June ’13) reported home third.  Trained by David Hinsley, the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Graeme Hall was purchased by Richard Perkins for $18,000 out of the Southern Cypress Stable consignment at the 2012 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. She’s now 28-6-6-5 and has earned $213,678. watch her under tack video
