Cinco Charlie romps in Sunland’s Riley Allison Stakes

William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Cinco Charlie took control of Saturday’s $100, 000 Riley Allison Stakes at Sunland Park at the start and ran away from  five outclassed rivals, cantering home an 8-1/2 length winner. It’s the third straight stakes win for the graded stakes winning 3-year-old colt by Indian Charlie, and his fifth stakes score overall. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he’s compiled a 9-6-0-2 record and has earned $335,802 to date. He was purchased for $190,000 out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2014 OBS March Sale after working an eighth in :10 1/5 Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Peter Redekop’s Go West Marie relaxed near the rear in the early going of the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Stakes at Santa Anita, but came running in the stretch, found room on the rail to take the the lead in the final yards and scored by three quarters of a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old filly by Western Fame, who was sold for $52,000 by Mayberry Farm, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.  Adolfo J. Exposito’s Double Secret tried stakes company for the first time in the five furlong $96,250 Lightning City Stakes on the Tampa Bay Downs turf course. Ignored at 30-1, the 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Double Honor went to the lead and never looked back, reporting home first by 3-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate You Bought Her (April ’12), who rallied for second at odds of 37-1, producing a $1,150.40 exacta. Double Secret is trained by her owner, who purchased her for $5,000 out of the Kaizen Sales consignment at the 2012 OBS August Sale. She’s now 14-4-3-2 and has earned $141,598.
