Istanford wins Del Mar’s San Clemente

Ike & Dawn Thrash, Janet Alley and Sam Alley’s Istanford took Saturday’s $201, 750 San Clemente Stakes (G2) at Del Mar the same way she beat the boys in the Arlington Classic (G3) in May, taking the lead at the break and never looking back, scoring by 2-1/2 lengths with fellow OBS graduate My Conquestadory (March ’13) checking in third. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Istan, now 10-4-2-0 with earnings of $326,365. She was sold for $25,000 by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2012 OBS August Selected Yearling Sale. Selected Yearling Sale photo

H. Jack Hendricks and Roger Justice’s East Hall shipped to Thistledown in search of his first stakes win and he got it in the $300,000 Ohio Derby, relaxing off the pace before rallying on the turn, swinging wide for the drive and closing with a rush to get up in the final yards, winning by a head. The 3-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Graeme Hall is a two time OBS graduate, sold first by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2012 August Sale. After working an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5 at the 2013 April Sale, he was purchased by trainer Bill Kaplan for $55,000 on behalf of Hendricks and Justice out of the Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg and Karen Dodd) consignment. The win gives him a 16-3-3-4 record and $360,370 in earnings. watch his under tack video
