Quality Road colt tops June Sale’s final session

Hip No. 1121, a son of Quality Road consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Conquest Stables LLC for $390,000 to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked a quarter in :21 flat at last Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of  Pirate Queen, by Unbridled’s Song, a daughter of graded stakes winner Be Gentle.

 Wavertree also consigned Hip No. 1030, a son of City Zip sold to Mike Recio, Agent for Matt Schera for $140,000. The bay colt, out of graded stakes placed Morethanaprincess, by More Than Ready, breezed an eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 1070, a son of Scat Daddy whose quarter in :20 1/5 was the Under Tack Show’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Stonestreet Stables LLC for $270,000. Consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, the dark bay or brown colt is out of Noshameinmygame, by Silver Deputy, a half sister to stakes winner Happy Humor.

Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc., Agent, went to $240,000 for Hip No. 1052, a gray or roan filly by Tapit consigned by Secure Investments. Out of grade one stakes winner My Trusty Cat, by Tale of the Cat, she worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 961, a bay filly by Awesome Again consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Alister Roden Bloodstock, Agent for Breen Racing, for $170,000. Out of Mamselle Aries, by Artax, she worked a quarter in :21 1/5 at last Friday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 1065, a son of Lemon Drop Kid consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to Calumet Farm for $120,000. The bay colt, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Nobility, by Lion Heart, a half sister to grade one winner Well Chosen. Hip No. 1101, a daughter of Unbridled’s Song also consigned by de Meric Sales, brought $120,000 as well, purchased by Adena Springs. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5, is out of graded stakes winner Passion, by Came Home,

Steven W. Young, Agent, paid $120,000 for Hip No. 1149, a bay colt by Curlin out of stakes placed Provincial, by Pulpit. Consigned by  Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, he worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5.

For the session, 144 two-year-olds grossed $4,724,300, averaging $32,808 with a $16,000 median price. The buyback percentage was 27.3%. There was no corresponding session in 2013.  

Twenty-six Horses of Racing Age grossed $262,000, compared with eight bringing $86,000 last year. The average was $10,077 compared with $10,750 in 2013 while the median was $6,500; it was $8,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 13.3% against 50% a year ago.

For the entire sale, 706 two-year-olds sold for a sale record $22,498,300, surpassing the 2013 Sale when 439 horses grossed a record $14,596,700. The average was $31,867 compared with $33,250 last year while the median price was $20,000, equaling last year’s sale record. The buyback percentage was 20.7%; it was 21.6% in 2013.

The sale topper was Hip No. 756, a daughter of Indian Charlie consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, sold to Bridlewood Farm for $500,000 on Thursday. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Greyciousness, by Miswaki, and is a half sister to grade one stakes winner The Factor.
