June Sale begins Tuesday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 June  Two Year Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale begins a four day run on Tuesday, June 17th.  Hip No.’s 1-300 will be offered at the sale’s opening session. Hip No.’s 301-600 sell on Wednesday, Hip No.’s 601-900 sell Thursday and Hip No.’s 901-1216 on Friday.  All four sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

There are 1, 181 two-year-olds and 34 older horses cataloged, including the 16 two-year-olds and two three-year-olds added in the supplemental catalog. The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.

The growth of the June Sale reflects the quality of is recent graduates. Starship Truffles emerged from the 2011 sale to earn more than $440,000 and win the grade one Princess Rooney Handicap. Goldencents came out of the 2012 June Sale and has earned over $2.2 million, winning the Santa Anita Derby (G1), the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and most recently was a sharp second off a long layoff in the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) on Belmont Stakes day. Last year’s sale produced Hutcheson Stakes (G3) and Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner Wildcat Red, who has earned over $660,000 to date. 

At the Under Tack Show which concluded Saturday, two youngsters shared honors for the fastest eighth mile breeze, timed in :9 4/5.  Hip No. 228, who breezed during the Tuesday session, is a colt by Benny the Bull consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent. He’s out of Tantrum, by Pleasant Colony, a half sister to graded stakes placed Saintly Action.

At Friday’s fifth session it was Hip No. 836, a bay filly by Macho Uno consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent. She’s out of Jade Butterfly, by Jade Hunter, a half sister to grade one winner Diazo.

Hip No. 1070, a son of Scat Daddy consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, worked the Under Tack Show’s fastest quarter at Saturday’s sixth and final session, stopping the timer in :20 1/5. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Noshameinmygame, by Silver Deputy, a half sister to stakes winner Happy Humor.

Scat Daddy is also the sire of Hip No. 1025, a bay filly who breezed three eighths on Saturday in :32 2/5, the Under Tack Show’s fastest work at the distance. Consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent for Phaedrus Flights LLC, Agent, she’s out of Mona Mia, by Monarchos, a half sister to graded stakes winner Buddy’s Humor.

All six Under Tack sessions were recorded and available on the OBS website, by entire session or by individual hip number. They are also available for viewing in the video room adjacent to the Horsemen’s Lounge in the sales pavilion as well as several kiosks in the lobby and the covered walking ring. In-room viewing is available at The Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton.
