Tapit colt tops Spring Sale’s second session

Hip No. 514, a son of Tapit consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to Mike Repole for $725,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.  The bay colt, out of stakes winner Ready for Fortune, by More Than Ready, worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Wednesday Under Tack Session. 

Hip No. 563, a bay filly by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was purchased for $525,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent. Out of Ruby Summer, by Mr. Greeley, a half sister to stakes winner Vague, her eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at last Wednesday’s Under Tack Session. Hip No. 359, a filly by Harlan’s Holiday, also consigned by Eisaman, went to C. C. B., Inc. for $260,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of  Miz Betty Grace, by Matty G., and a half sister to stakes winner Indian Gracey.  Eisaman also consigned Hip No. 455, a daughter of Afleet Express sold to Mark Casse, Agent, for $260,000. The bay filly, who also breezed an eighth in : 9/4, is out of Phi Beta Diva, by Mr. Greeley, a half sister to stakes winner A Little Gem.

Hip No. 570, a half sister to Triple Crown candidate Social Inclusion by Scat Daddy consigned by Woodside Ranch, Agent, was sold to Green Hills Farm for $425,000. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of graded stakes placed Saint Bernadette, by Saint Ballado.

Gary Contessa, Agent, went to $390,000 for Hip No. 384, Amerindian, a daughter of Indian Charlie consigned by James Layden, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of My Success, by A.P. Indy, and is a half sister to stakes winner Southern Success.

Hip No. 330, a son of Pure Prize consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Lynn Whiting, Agent for Charles J. Cella, for $350,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at last Wednesday’s Under Tack Session, is out of Miki’s Melody, by Aptitude, a half sister to stakes winner My Pal Lana. Brennan also sold Hip No. 591, a dark bay or brown More Than Ready filly out of Search and Seizure, by War Chant, a half sister to graded stakes winner Criminologist. She worked an eighth last Wednesday in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 441, Prince of Malibu, a bay colt by Malibu Moon out of graded stakes winner People’s Princess, by Meadowlake, was sold to Mike McCarty for $300,000. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, the half brother to graded stakes winner Carolyn’s Cat worked at eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, consigned Hip No. 559, a dark bay or brown filly by Congrats sold to Martin S. Schwartz for $260,000. Out of graded stakes placed Royal Card, by Chapel Royal, she worked a quarter in :21 flat last Wednesday.

Hip No. 585, a daughter of Stormy Atlantic consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, also brought $260,000, going to Ben McElroy, Agent. The chestnut filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Scapegoat, by Forty Niner, and is a half sister to stakes winner Tres Coronas.

Hip No 530, a chestnut colt by Street Boss who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, was sold to Mark Casse, Agent, for  $250,000. Consigned by Classic Bloodstock (Danzel Brendemuehl), Agent, he’s out of Reggae Rose, by Touch Gold, a half sister to graded stakes winner Celtic New Year.

West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. went to $210,000 for Hip No. 545, a son of Discreetly Mine consigned by All In Sales (Tony Bowling), Agent. Out of stakes winner Rockin On, by Swiss Yodeler, the bay colt worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 489, a bay filly by Tapit out of grade one stakes placed Pursuit of Glory (IRE), by Fusaichi Pegasus, was sold to Gary Contessa, Agent for $205,000. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, she worked an eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 414, Journey Proud, a son of Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, was purchased by Bortolazzo Stable LLC for $200,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Oneminutetomidnite, by Street Cry (IRE), a half sister to graded stakes winner Wicapi.

For the day, 196 horses sold for a total of $15,573,000, compared with 213 horses selling for a total of $13,272,500 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $79,454, soaring 27.5% from $62,312 last year, while the median price was $48,500, up 21.3% from $40,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 18.7%, 12.4% in 2013. Forty-four horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 26 a year ago.
