Mineshaft colt tops Spring Sale opener

Hip No. 218, a son of Mineshaft consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to Frank Fletcher Racing LLC for $550,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2014 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The chestnut colt, who worked an Under Tack Show eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Kelly Pond, by Deputy Minister, and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Clear Pond.

David M. Clark went to $340,000 for Hip No. 280, a bay colt by Bellamy Road out of Long Drive Home, by Linkage, and a half brother to stakes winner Out for a Spin. Consigned by Bo Hunt, Agent, he breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at Tuesday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 62, a daughter of Harlan’s Holiday consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Narvick International for $270,000. The bay filly, who worked an eight in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Garden Party, by  A. P Jet, a half sister to grade one winner Without Feathers.

Hip No. 161, a filly by Flatter consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was purchased for $250,000 by John Fort, Agent for Gainesway Farm. The dark bay or brown filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Hurricane Hannah, by Southern Halo, a half sister to graded stakes winner Lovely Lil.

R N B Racing LLC paid $220,000 for Hip No. 250, a daughter of Scat Daddy consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent. The chestnut filly, a half sister to stakes placed Feels Like Flying out of La Violette, by Coronado’s Quest, worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 flat.

Hip No. 245, consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, is a half brother to stakes winner Harlan’s Pure by Horse Greeley, and was sold for $210,000 to Klaravich Stable, Inc. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Lantern Glow, by Mineshaft.  Klaravich also went to $200,000 for Hip No. 67, a bay filly by Warrior’s Reward consigned by King’s Equine, Agent for Spendthrift Farm. Out of stakes winner G G’s Dolly, by Comic Strip, her eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at last Tuesday’s Under Tack Session.

Hip No. 42, Back Flip, a chestnut filly by Super Saver consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $200,000. Out of stakes winner For Royalty, by Not For Love, she breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show

Hip No. 138, a daughter of Yes It’s True consigned by  Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, went to  Conquest Stables LLC for $200,000. Out of Hold the Sugar, by Forest Wildcat, a half sister to stakes winner Red Eye, the bay filly worked a quarter in :21 flat.   

For the day, 173 horses sold for a total of $11,512,000, compared with 202 horses bringing $11,632,000 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $66,543, up 15.5% compared with $57,584 in 2013, while the median price was $45,000, up 26.8% from $35,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 23.5%; it was 13.3% last year.  Thirty-eight horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 34 in 2013.
