Winter Mixed Sale starts Wednesday; Under Tack Show on Monday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company begins its 2014 sale calendar with the annual Winter Mixed Sale. The catalog may be viewed on the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The sortable master index provides access to supplemental entries and pedigree updates occurring since the catalog went to the printer.

A total of 809 horses have been cataloged to date for the three-day sale, scheduled to begin Wednesday, January 22nd with hip numbers 1- 254 selling in the Consignor Preferred session.

The Thursday, January 23rd session will be devoted to the 205 horses (hip numbers 255 – 459) cataloged in the Horses of Racing Age section, including the horses supplemented to the sale after the catalog went to press. Past performances are currently available online. Seeking to enhance the value of their horses, the consignors of a trio of three-year-olds in the sale have entered them in Tuesday’s OBS Day of Champions races; Glenstal Abbey (Hip 302) and Wondrouswager (Hip 457) in the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for colts and geldings and Raising Passion (Hip 367) in the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for fillies.

The Racing Age Section includes 35 two-year-olds, 102 three-year-olds and 68 older horses. The optional Under Tack Show, set for Monday, January 20th at 10:00 a.m., will be streamed live via the OBS website and videos will be posted online as well as viewable at the sales grounds.

Hip numbers 501 – 850 will sell on Friday, January 24th in the Open Session.

All three sessions begin at 10:30 a.m. and the sale will be streamed live via the OBS website and the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.

The OBS Championship Stakes races, run this year for the first time in conjunction with the Winter Mixed Sale, are set for Tuesday, January 21st, with first post time at 1:00 p.m.

The 258 newly turned yearlings in the sale are highlighted by the progeny of a strong roster of proven sires including Discreet Cat, Exchange Rate, First Samurai, Into Mischief, Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), Macho Uno, Majestic Warrior, Stormy Atlantic, Two Step Salsa and Wildcat Heir.

Promising stallions with yearlings in the sale include Colonel John, Drosselmeyer, Dunkirk, First Dude, Haynesfield, Kantharos, Lookin At Lucky, Majesticperfection, Paddy O’Prado, Pioneerof the Nile, Super Saver, Sydney’s Candy, Tale of Ekati and Uncle Mo.

Broodmare buyers will find mares in foal to a good group of proven stallions including Afleet Alex, Artie Schiller, Flatter, High Cotton, Mizzen Mast, Put It Back, Tale of the Cat and Yes It’s True as well as up and comers Archarcharch, Astrology, Biondetti, Big Drama, Kodiak Kowboy, Tizway, Trappe Shot and Stay Thirsty.

The Racing Age Section has been extremely well received in its first two years. Consigned by Off the Hook LLC, the colt was purchased by Justin Casse, Agent. Racing for Newtown Anner Stud, James Covello and Joseph Bulger, the colt produced immediate dividends, winning the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs.
