More Than Ready colt, Even The Score filly fastest at June Under Tack opener

A colt by More Than Ready and a filly by Even the Score worked quarters in :21 flat to post the fastest works at the distance at the first session of the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Hip No. 53, Imprecision, is a colt by More Than Ready consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of stakes placed No Lullaby, by Brahms, a half sister to graded stakes winner Elusive Diva. Hip No. 82, consigned by Southern Chase Farm Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, is a dark bay or brown filly by Even the Score out of Pata Fresca, by Indian Charlie, a half sister to the dam of stakes winner Calleybluebayou.

Three youngsters breezed quarters in :21 1/5. Hip No. 83, a dark bay or brown Ready’s Image colt consigned by SBM Training and Sales, Agent, is out of Peaceful Journey, by Behrens. Hip No. 129, consigned by Ocala Stud, is a bay filly by Montbrook out of Red Pine, by Awesome Again, a daughter of stakes winner Undercover. Hip No. 193, consigned by Southern Chase Farm Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, is a gray or roan filly by Value Plus out of Sliver of Silver, by Silver Deputy, and is a half sister to stakes winner Sweet Redemption.

 Six horses shared honors for the session’s fastest eighth, each stopping the timer in :10 flat. Hip No. 38 is a colt by Successful Appeal consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Mrs. Greeley, by Mr. Greeley, and is a full brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Closing Argument. Wavertree also consigned Hip No. 176, a bay colt by First Samurai out of Shoo In, by Dynaformer, a half sister to stakes winner Promise of War. Hip No. 42, consigned by Rod McVey, Agent, is a dark bay or brown colt by Ready’s Image out of Music Miss, by Prospector’s Music, and is a half brother to stakes placed Sheza Runaway Star.  Hip No. 97, a gray or roan filly by Mizzen Mast consigned by Potrero Stables, Agent, is out of Pink Moon, by Exploit, a half sister to graded stakes winner Broad Dynamite. Hip No. 131, consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is a bay filly by Empire Maker out of Regala Di Trieste, by Old Trieste, a half sister to grade one winning millionaire Pioneerof the Nile. Hip No. 158, Storm Viper, is a colt by Stormy Atlantic consigned by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co. The bay colt is out of Satin Sash, by Silver Deputy, a half sister to graded stakes winning champion Leonnatus Anteas.

Hip No. 230, Strictly Two Step, a colt by Two Step Salsa consigned by Potrero Stables, Agent, worked the session’s fastest three eighths, getting the distance in :33 3/5. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Strict Forum, by Open Forum, a half sister to stakes winner Avid Skier.

Three horses worked three eighths in :33 4/5. Hip No. 39, consigned by L F Thoroughbreds, Agent, is a bay filly by Circular Quay out of Mrs. H., by Songandaprayer. Hip No. 196 is a bay gelding by In Summation consigned by Derby Dreams, Agent. He’s out of Social Scene, by Tabasco Cat, a half sister to stakes placed Winsome Charm. Hip No. 212, consigned by All Dreams Equine, Agent, is a dark bay or brown colt by With Distinction out of Star Julia, by Matty G.

June Sale Under Tack Show begins Friday

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age begins Friday, June 14th and continues through Sunday, June 16th.  All three sessions begin at 7:30 a.m.

Hip No.’s 1-250 (selling Tuesday, June 18th) will breeze on Friday. Hip No.’s 251-500 (251-370 selling Tuesday; 371-500 selling Wednesday, June 19th) will go on Saturday, June 15th, and Hip No.’s 501-748 (selling Wednesday) will work on Sunday, June 16th.

There are 720 two-year-olds and 26 older horses in the two-day sale, with both the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Since the beginning of 2012, June Sale graduates have already won or placed in 74 stakes races, headlined by three graded victories by Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Goldencents, two graded wins by Spring Venture and one by Super Ninety Nine.

 As always, the sale and Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com, and also via the Blood-Horse and DRF websites. The works will be available on DVD and on the OBS website, as well as in the video room adjacent to the Horsemen’s Lounge and at kiosks in the breezeway and covered walking ring areas.  In-room viewing is available at The Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton.

Current information about OBS sales, consignors and graduates is now also available via social media sites Facebook and Twitter. A link on the homepage directs users to either site.

Stephanie’s Kitten takes Belmont’s Just a Game Stakes

Ken & Sarah Ramsey’s Stephanie’s Kitten stayed on the fence in the early going in Saturday’s $500, 000 Just a Game Stakes (G1) at Belmont, found room inside and took command in the final eighth then edged away to a half length victory. It’s the second grade one win for the 4-year-old daughter of Kitten’s Joy,  consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, to the 2011 OBS April Sale. Her fifth graded stakes score leaves her 12-7-0-3 with earnings of $1,580,404. watch her under tack work

 

 Kretz Racing LLC’s Tale of a Champion scored his first graded stakes win in Hollywood’s $200,250 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap (G2) on Saturday, coming from just off the pace and winning by a length. It’s the second win in five starts this year for the 5-year-old son of Tale of the Cat, sold for $13,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent at the 2010 OBS April Sale. Now 14-6-1-1, he has earned $269,708 to date. watch his under tack work

Always Believe LLC’s Kinz Funky Monkey made her 3-year-old debut in Hollywood’s $73,600 Manhattan Beach Stakes on Saturday, went to the lead at the break, stayed there all the way and scored her first stakes win by half a length. Idle since breaking her maiden at Del Mar in September, the daughter of The Green Monkey is now 4-2-1-1 and has earned $108,110. The first stakes winner for her sire, she was sold for $82,000 by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack work

Loooch Racing Stable’s Caviar N Champagne picked up her first stakes win on Saturday, surging to take charge of Thistledown’s $50,000 Michael G. Mackey Memorial Handicap in the stretch and rolling to a 5-1/4 length victory. One for three this year, the 4-year-old Formal Dinner filly was sold for $13,000 by Lynne Boutte, Agent, at the 2010 OBS August Sale. Now 21-5-4-4, she has earned $158,404 to date.

Bluestone Thoroughbreds LLC’s Black Diamond Cat rallied to take command of Calder’s $75, 000 Ponche Handicap on Saturday inside the final furlong then drew off to win by a length and three quarters. It’s the third stakes win for the two time OBS graduate, sold first by Kaizen Sales at the 2008 January Sale before being consigned by Marion Bloodstock, Agent, to the 2008 August Sale. The 6-year-old Florida-bred Wildcat Heir gelding is now 47-7-11-5 and has earned $323,954.

Amaty Racing Stables’ Capitalism At Risk rode a four race win streak into her stakes debut in Calder’s $75,000 U Can Do It Handicap, took the lead at the start and held on to win by a nose. Her first stakes score gives the 6-year-old Florida- bred mare by Bull Market a 44-17-3-6 record and boosts her bankroll to $280,562. Beth Bayer, Agent, sold the two time OBS graduate as a weanling at the 2007 Fall Mixed Sale before she was purchased for $65,000 out of the Blue River Bloodstock consignment at the 2009 April Sale. watch her under tack work

Rontos Racing Stable Corp.’s Wildcat Lily scored her first stakes win at Calder Saturday, drawing away to a four length victory in the $71,900 Leave Me Alone Stakes. That’s three wins in ten starts this year for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by D’wildcat, giving her a 15-4-3-1 record and earnings of $142,855. Sold first as a weanling by Mecco Sales (Mary Ellen Coenen), Agent, at the 2010 OBS Fall Mixed Sale, she was resold for $20,000 by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2011 August Yearling Sale.

Delightful Mary returns to win Woodbine’s Hendrie Stakes

John C. Oxley’s Delightful Mary, idle since last March, came from well off the pace with a big late charge and won Woodbine’s $150, 000 Hendrie Stakes (G3) by a length. It’s the third stakes victory for the 2011 OBS Championship Stakes winner, now 11-6-2-1 with earnings of $588,055. The 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Limehouse was sold by Craig Wheeler, Agent, for a sale topping $500,000 at the 2010 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video

Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence’s Readtheprospectus ran off his sixth straight win on Saturday, taking command of Belmont’s $150,000 Commentator Stakes a furlong from home and beating fellow OBS graduate So Scott (February ’09) by a length and a quarter. It’s the first stakes score for the 4-year-old gelding by Read the Footnotes, sold for $30,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent For Blue Sky Farm LLC, at the 2011 OBS April Sale. Dare To Dream Stable LLC (Michael Faber), Little Bear Racing Stables and Mason’s Flower Spell went to the lead at the start of Saturday’s $66,600 Meafara Stakes at Arlington and never looked back en route to a six length victory. It’s the second straight win and first stakes score for the 3-year-old Flower Alley filly, sold for $25,000 by Bobby Dodd, Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale. Terrell Jarrett Jr.’s Lattin Devil scored his second straight stakes win with a 3-1/2 length victory in the $50,000 Ragin Cajun Stakes at Evangeline Downs. The 3-year-old gelding by Latent Heat, sold for $10,000 by Paul Sharp, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale, is now 7-4-1-1 and has earned $134,940 to date. watch his under tack video

Ronald Ulrich’s King Henry overcame a slow start, circled his field and drew off to win Penn National’s $50,000 Penn Dash Stakes by a length and three quarters. His third straight win, and first stakes score, leaves him with a 29-8-5-6 record and $209,614 in earnings. The 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Congrats was sold for $17,000 by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2009 OBS August Sale. 

Southern Equine Stable LLC and Whispering Oaks Farm LLC’s D’cajun Cat, sold for $300,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale after an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, romped to a 5-1/4 length victory in his debut at Churchill Downs. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the 2-year-old colt by D’wildcat earned $21,720 for his effort. watch his under tack video
