Conquest Whiplash beats the boys in Woodbine’s Victoria Stakes; OBS doubleheader sweep at Calder

Conquest Stables LLC’s Conquest Whiplash took on the boys in her debut in Woodbine’s $153, 000 Victoria Stakes and the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Hear No Evil ran away to a 2-3/4 length wire to wire victory over fellow OBS graduate Ba Ba Brett (October ’11, January ’12, August ‘12).  A two time OBS graduate, she was sold by Kaizen Sales, Agent, at the 2012 August Sale before working a quarter in :20 2/5 and bringing $370,000 when sold by  Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2013 April Sale. OBS grads took both ends of a Calder stakes doubleheader on Saturday as Wesley Ward’s Sweetmarys Success and Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa’s Yes I’m Lucky scored frontrunning victories.

Sweetmarys Success, unbeaten after two starts, coasted to a 1-1/2 length win in the $100,000 J J’s Dream Stakes and has earned $81,720 to date. Sold by Sue Vacek at the 2012 OBS Winter Mixed Sale, the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Teuflesberg was resold by Pelican State Thoroughbreds for $55,000 at the 2012 August Sale.

Yes I’m Lucky is also two for two after his four length victory over fellow OBS graduate Brothersofthetime (August ’12) in the $100,000 Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes. The 2-year-old colt by Yes It’s True, who has earned $57,000 to date, brought $105,000 when sold by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2013 March Sale. watch his under tack video

Just For Fun Stable LLC’s Street Gem scored her first stakes victory at Monmouth on Sunday, winning the $61,800 Revidere Stakes by a length and a quarter. It’s the fourth win in seven starts this year for the 3-year-old filly by Street Boss, consigned by Derby Dreams, Agent, to the 2012 OBS March Sale. She’s now 9-4-2-0 and has earned $82,940. watch her under tack video

Conquest Two Step wins at first asking at Churchill

Conquest Stables LLC’s Conquest Two Step lived up to his advance notices in his debut in a $39, 481 maiden special weight test at Churchill Downs, pressing a rapid pace before taking charge turning for home and scoring by two lengths. Sold as a yearling by Get Away Farm at the 2012 OBS August Sale, the 2-year-old colt by Two Step Salsa was then resold  for $420,000 by Eisaman Equine at the 2013 OBS April Sale after working an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Another OBS first timer also scored Friday as Joseph Bucci’s Jake’s Magic Hat rallied from off the pace, ran by the leaders a furlong from home and eased away to a 2-1/2 length victory in a $70,000 maiden special test at Belmont. The 2-year-old colt by Tiz Wonderful, who took home $42,000 for his effort, was sold for $90,000 by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, at the 2013 March Sale. watch his under tack video

Avare – Majestic Racing Stable, LLC and RAP Racing’s Avare led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Saturday’s $77, 500 Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita on Decembe 30, leading all the way and scoring by 4-1/4 lengths over Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview Stakes winner Gabriel Charles (April ’12), with Will True Up (March ’12) checking in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old son of Johannesburg, sold for $130,000 by McKathan Bros., Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale. Revolutionary – WinStar Farm LLC’s Revolutionary took a couple of tries to get the idea, but the $235,000 OBS March graduate tried two turns for the first time in a $67,000 maiden special weight test at Aqueduct on December 28, moved to the leaders approaching the top of the stretch then drew off with ease, hitting the wire in front by 8-1/2 lengths. The promising 2-year-old colt by War Pass, sold in March by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, has never been off the board and is now 4-1-1-2 with earnings of $68,500.  watch his under tack video

Travesura – Val-U-Chem Inc.’s Travesura tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $100,000 Miesque Stakes (G3) on the turf at Hollywood Park and went wire to wire, scoring by half a length at odds of 11-1. That’s two straight wins for the 2-year-old filly by Limehouse, sold for $60,000 by Kings Equine, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Unlimited Budget – Repole Stables’ Unlimited Budget, a winner in her long awaited debut on November 9, stepped right into Aqueduct’s $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G3) on November 24, took the lead at the break and never looked back en route to a 1-1/4 length victory. Two for two with earnings of $190,200, the 2-year-old Florida-bred Street Sense filly was sold for $475,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2012 OBS March Sale. watch her under tack video
 

 

 Really Mr Greely – Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman’s Really Mr. Greely grabbed the lead at the start of the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3) on Thanksgiving Day and never let go, holding off a late run by fellow OBS graduate Super Ninety Nine (June ’12) to win by half a length. It’s the second straight win and first stakes score for the two-time OBS graduate, sold first by Kelli Mitchell, Agent, at the 2011 August Yearling Sale before bringing $40,000 when purchased out of the Thoroughbred Friends and Associates consignment at the 2012 April Sale. Goldencents – W.C. Racing, Dave Kenney and RAP Racing’s Goldencents took the lead at the start of the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (G3) on November 17 and held it all the way, easing away in the final furlong to a 1-3/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Into Mischief, sold for $62,000 by Southern Chase Farm (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale. Rose to Gold – Kathleen Amaya and Raffaele Centofani’s Rose to Gold was on or near the lead all the way in the $500,000 Delta Downs Princess Stakes (G3) on November 17 before edging away in the final yards and winning her first graded stakes race by half a length. The 2-year-old Friends Lake filly, who began her career with two runaway stakes wins at Calder, is now 4-3-0-0 and has earned $372,869 to date. She was consigned by Karrington Stables, Agent, to the 2011 OBS August Sale.

Notacatbutallama – Repole Stable’s Notacatbutallama saved ground in the early going of Aqueduct’s $80,000 Super Mario Stakes on November 23, found a seam to run through after turning for home and bounded away to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Harlan’s Holiday, now 6-3-2-0 with earnings of $191,000. Graded Stakes Winners: 

Spring in the Air – John Oxley’s Spring in the Air moved into contention on the far turn in Keeneland’s $400,000 Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on the meet’s opening day, then ran past the leaders in the final furlong to score by a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old daughter of Spring at Last, second to fellow OBS graduate Spring Venture (June ’12) in Woodbine’s Natalama Stakes (G2) last month. Sold by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale for $130,000, she’s now 4-2-2-0 and has earned $371,519 to date. watch her under tack video

Spring Venture – Stoneway Farm LLC and Gary Barber’s Spring Venture took the overland route in Woodbine’s Mazarine Stakes (G3) on October 6, but losing ground made little difference as the 2-year-old old daughter of Spring At Last took charge after turning for home and pulled away to a length and a half victory. Three for three with two graded stakes wins, she’s earned $310,821. She was sold for $320,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale. watch her under tack video

Executiveprivilege – Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s unbeaten Executiveprivilege tried two turns for the first time in the $250,000 Chandelier Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita on September 29. No problem. The 2-year-old daughter of First Samurai went to the lead, pulled away after half a mile and widened from there, scoring by 6-1/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Scarlet Strike (March ’12), with Miss Empire (March ’12) completing the OBS trifecta. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 2012 OBS April Sale topper, sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000. She’s now five for five, and has earned $540,000 to date. watch her under tack video

Rolling Fog –  Arnold Zetcher’s Rolling Fog was overlooked at 7-1 going into the $300,000 Del Mar Futurity (G1), but the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Posse stayed close to the lead in the early going, took over turning for home and eased away to a length and a quarter victory. The gray or roan colt is a three-time OBS graduate, consigned by Tara Stables LLC, Agent, to the 2010 October Sale before Tara sold him at the 2011 January Sale. He was then purchased for $62,000 out of the Classic Bloodstock (Danzel Brendemuehl) consignment at the 2012 April Sale. Now two for two, he has earned $222,000.  watch his under tack video

Spurious Precision – As impressive as Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Spurious Precision was in his July 21 debut at Saratoga, it was merely a warmup for his performance in the $200,000 Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) on August 12. Taking the lead at the start and setting the pace with a half in :44 flat, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton drew away in the stretch and coasted to a five length victory. Two for two and a graded stakes winner of $168,000, he’s following in the footsteps of his older stablemate, OBS graduate Currency Swap (March ’11, October ’09). Currency Swap, also by High Cotton, broke his maiden at Saratoga before winning the Hopeful Stakes (G1) in his second start. It’s the first stakes score for the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by High Cotton, shipped in to Calder off a maiden win at Monmouth in August. Gabriel Charles – Sam Britt and Michael House’s Gabriel Charles found Santa Anita’s downhill turf course to his liking in the $100,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview Stakes on November 3, rallying from just off the pace  and then drawing off to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Street Hero, sold for $160,000 by Price Thoroughbreds at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Hightail – Bluegrass Hall LLC’s Hightail was a maiden going into the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint on November 2, but the 2-year-old colt by Mineshaft stayed on the rail behind pace-setting fellow OBS graduate Merit Man (April ’12, October ’10), then drove inside and outfought Merit Man to the wire to win his first race by a nose. Purchased by trainer D. Wayne Lukas on behalf Brad Kelley’s Bluegrass Hall for $345,000 from Wavertree Stables, Inc. Miss Empire – Gary & Cecil Barber and Kevin Tsujihara’s Miss Empire added Golden Gate’s $100,000 Pike Place Dancer Stakes to her resume on October 28, taking the early lead, turning for home in front, then coming again when passed in mid-stretch to win by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 2-year-old Empire Maker filly, now 7-2-0-3 with earnings of $207,120. Tate’s Landing – Copper Penny Stables’ Tate’s Landing, overlooked at 23-1 in the $100,000 Laurel Futurity on October 27, rallied from off the pace before drawing off to a 3-1/4 length win for his first stakes victory. The 2-year-old colt by Orientate, who ran 5-1/2 furlongs on the turf in a quick 1:02, is now 4-2-1-0 with earnings of $101,540. Verso a Verso – Frank Carl Calabrese’s Verso a Verso is two for two and a stakes winner after her five length victory led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $300,000 Florida Stallion My Dear Girl Stakes on October 13. Ashlee’s Princess (August ’11) was second, with So Blessed (January ’11) checking in in third. Candy Coded Kisses – Easton and Elsaida DeSouza’s Candy Coded Kisses was overlooked at 24-1 in the $75,000 Florida Stallion Desert Vixen Stakes at Calder on July 29, but the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Omega Code took command with a quarter mile to go and drew off to her first stakes win by four lengths. Fellow OBS graduates Putyourdreamsaway (April ’12) and So Blessed (January ’11) were second and third. Consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, to the 2011 OBS August Sale, she’s now 3-2-20-1 and has earned $60,370.

D’nied Permission  – F. Muro, W. Cheekes, L. Ferrentino and Calascibetta Racing Stable’s D’nied Permission rallied to gain the lead late in the $125,000 Florida Stallion Affirmed Stakes on August 25, then held off a late charge to win by a neck at odds of 21-1. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old Florida-bred gelding by D’wildcat, now 4-2-2-0 with $96,190 in earnings. He was sold for $18,000 by Sharon Biamonte, Agent, at the 2011 OBS August Sale.

Dry Summer – Sam Britt & Michael House’s Dry Summer found stakes company on the Del Mar turf course to his liking, rallying from fifth in the early stages, closing strongly and getting up by a neck to win the $100,000 Oaks Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes on September 5. It’s the first stakes win for 2-year-old son of Any Given Saturday, now 3-2-0-0 with earnings of $105,000. Itsmyluckyday –  Trilogy Stables and Laurie Plesa’s Itsmyluckyday took over from fellow OBS graduate Sr. Quisqueyano (January ’11) at the top of the top of the stretch of Calder’s $100,000 Foolish Pleasure Stakes on September 15 and drew away to beat him to the wire by three lengths. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 2-year-old Lawyer Ron colt, now 5-3-1-1 with earnings of $110,600. Merit Man– Bruce Chandler, Double Kee LLC & Purple Shamrock Racing’s Merit Man is two for two and a stakes winner after his 5-1/2 length victory led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep the $100,000 Tim Conway Stakes at Santa Anita. South Floyd (June ’12, March ’12) was second, with No Rachmones (March ’12) checking in third. The winner, a 2-year-old colt by With Distinction, is a two-time OBS graduate, consigned to the 2010 Fall Mixed Sale by Hartley DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent before they sold him for $75,000 at the 2012 April Sale. Putyourdreamsaway – Herb & Ione Elkins’ Putyourdreamsaway is two for three and a stakes winner after leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $125, 000 Florida Stallion Susan’s Girl Stakes on August 25. August Sale graduates Candy Coded Kisses and Capriccio Blue were second and third. The winner, a 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Put It Back, sold for $20,000 by Southern Chase Farm (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale, is now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $115,975. watch her under tack video

Sr. Quisqueyano – OBS graduates were 1-2-3 in Calder’s $73,800 Seacliff Stakes on August 25 as Rosa Stephany Taveras’ unbeaten  Sr. Quisqueyano romped to a 13 ¾ length win over C D Gold (June ’12) with Uptown Anthem (June ’12, April ’12, August ’11, Ocotber ’10) a half-length back in third. Now three for three, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Exclusive Quality has earned $84,600 to date. He was sold for $5,500 by Thoroughstock, Agent, at the 2011 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.

Sweet Redemption – Southern Chase Farm’s Sweet Redemption made her debut in the $151,350 Ontario Debutante Stakes at Woodbine on August 11 and despite no previous experience, tracked the leaders into the stretch and then ran them down in the final strides to win her first start by a neck. Fellow OBS graduate Lady Bear (April ’12, January ’11) checked in third. Earning $90,810 for her effort, Sweet Redemption, a 2-year-old daughter of D’wildcat, was consigned by Southern Chase (Greg & Karen Dodd) to the 2012 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video

Tree of Life –  West Point Thoroughbreds’ Tree of Life is two for two and a stakes winner after a three quarter length victory in the $100,495 Barretts Juvenile Stakes at Fairplex Park on September 16. The 2-year-old Lion Heart colt was sold for $60,000 by Hunter Valley Farm at the 2011 OBS August Sale. He has earned $97,550 to date.

Unhedged – Klaravich Stables Inc. & William H. Lawrence’s Unhedged is three for three and a stakes winner after taking the lead turning for home in the $100,000 Presque Isle Debutante Stakes on September 29 then holding off the late charge of fellow OBS grad Tiny Bear (April ’12, August ’11, January ’11) to win by a neck. Sold for $10,000 by Summerfield, Agent For Westbury Stables, at the 2010 OBS October Sale, the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Broken Vow has earned $114,600 to date.

Archwarrior – Alto Racing LLC’s Archwarrior had little trouble living up to his advance billing, pulling away in the stretch of Saratoga’s third race on August 30 and winning his debut by 3-1/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Malachite (April ’12). After tracking the early leaders down the backstretch, the 2-year-old son of Arch moved up on the turn, hit the front after turning for home and finished six furlongs under a hand ride in 1:10 flat. Best Warrior – Yukio Baba’s Best Warrior got his career off on the right foot on November 10, scoring in an $87,500 maiden race at Kyoto Racecourse in Japan in his first trip to the post. Super Ninety Nine – Tanma Corporation’s Super Ninety Nine scored at first asking in a maiden special weight test at Santa Anita on October 7, easing away down the lane to win by a length and a quarter. Fly Again – Windmill Manor Farm’s Fly Again was overlooked at 25-1 in her debut in the seventh race at Belmont on September 8 and trailed the field after a quarter mile of the $68,000 seven furlong maiden special on the turf course. Indiano Jones– John C. Oxley’s Indiano Jones put the lessons learned in a troubled debut to good use in an August 19 maiden special test at Woodbine, staying close to the lead before taking charge a furlong from home and reporting home a handy winner by a length and a quarter. Jocosity – The dictionary defines jocosity as “joking  or jesting” and his backers laughed all the way down the stretch as Let’s Go Stable’s Jocosity rolled to an eight length victory in a maiden special at Saratoga on August 3. After pressing a wicked pace in :21 3/5 and :44 4/5, the bay colt by Sharp Humor took over and extended his lead with every stride, stopping the timer in a quick 1:02 4/5 for the 5-1/2 furlong maiden special weight test for two-year-olds. Kinz Funky Monkey – Always Believe Inc.’s Kinz Funky Monkey pressed the pace in a $71,400 Del Mar special weight test on September 1, took the lead in the final sixteenth and won by a neck. MechayaDoubledown Stables, Inc.’s Mechaya zipped 5-1/2 furlongs in 1:03 flat to win her debut by two lengths in a Del Mar maiden special on August 10. The 2-year-old daughter of City Zip was sold for $240,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2012 OBS March Sale. Read the Proposal – Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Read the Proposal took the lead at the break of a mile and a sixteenth maiden special weight test on the turf at Saratoga on August 11 and improved his position from there, rolling to an 8-1/2 length victory. Truly Marie – Ike and  Dawn Thrash’s Truly Marie, a solid fourth in her July debut, went to the lead in Del Mar’s seventh race on August 19 and never looked back, opening a big lead before cruising home to a one length victory. The 2-year-old filly by Hard Spun ran 5-1/2 furlongs in 1:03 flat in the maiden special weight test. She was sold for $50,000 by Four Star Sales, Agent for Glencrest Farm LLC, at the 2011 OBS August Sale.

Record Pioneerof the Nile colt tops June Sale finale

Hip No. 492, Tracker Jacker, a bay colt by Pioneerof the Nile consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Conquest Stables LLC for a June Sale record $525,000 to top the second and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Out of stakes placed Early Vintage, by Jump Start, the sale topper worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session.

The previous sale record price was $350,000 for an Elusive Quality colt sold last year. The sale also broke records for gross, average and median prices.

Hip No. 618, a daughter of Afleet Alex consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent was sold to Stonestreet Stables LLC for $280,000.  The bay filly, whose quarter in :20 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance on Sunday,  is out of I’m From Dixie, by Dixieland Band, a half sister to graded stakes winner Sweet Vendetta.

Conquest Stables LLC purchased Hip No. 544, paying $225,000 for a daughter of Dixie Union consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The bay filly, out of Ford Gallop, by Victory Gallop, a full sister to graded stakes winner Victory U. S. A., worked the sale’s fastest three eighths by a two-year-old, stopping the timer in :33 flat.

St. Elias & West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. went to $220,000 for Hip No. 382, a daughter of Indian Charlie consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent. The bay filly, who worked  a quarter in :21 2/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Belle Excel, by Gone West, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mash One.

Conquest purchased Hip No. 371 for $200,000, a son of Indian Charlie consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat Saturday, is out of Baltic Flier, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to grade one stakes winning OBS graduate Caller One.

Hip No. 682, Betterforgether, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat Sunday, went to Hill n Dale Bloodstock for $200,000. The dark bay or brown colt, a half brother to stakes winner I Love Silver out of Lost Love, by Lost Code, was consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent.

Hip No. 677, a bay filly by Lemon Drop Kid consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, also went to Conquest, going for $160,000. Out of Lizzy Van Lew, by War Chant, a daughter of graded stakes winner Mysterious Moll, she worked a quarter on Sunday in :21 2/5.

Conquest’s final purchase was $170,000 for Hip No. 740, a son of Afleet Alex out of Corre Scout, by El Corredor, a daughter of graded stakes winner Fit to Scout. The dark bay or brown colt, consigned by Pike Racing, Agent, breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 on Sunday.

Hip No. 390, a bay colt by Master Command consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, was sold to Klaravich Stable, Inc. for $150,000. Out of Bold American, by Quiet American and a half brother to grade one stakes placed Valiant Passion, he worked a quarter in :21 1/5 last Saturday.

Eddie Woods also consigned Hip No. 393, Boston Bound, a son of Hard Spun sold to Christina Jelm, Agent, for $150,000. The bay colt, who breezed three eighths in :34 flat on Saturday, is out of Boston Lady, by Boston Harbor, and is a half brother to grade one stakes placed Normandy Invasion.

For the session, 201 two-year-olds sold for a total of $7,490,000, compared with 200 youngsters grossing $5,475,300 at 2012’s second session. The average was $37,264, rising 36.1% from $27,377 last year, while the median was $22,000, up 46.7% compared with $15,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24.2%; it was 23.4% in 2012.  Thirty six horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with twenty two last year.

Seven older horses brought a total of $82,000, averaging $11,714 with a median price of $9,000. Last year, 13 sold for a total of $103,900, averaging $7,992 with a $5,500 median price.

For the entire sale, 426 two-year-olds sold for a sale record total of $14,424,100, surpassing last year’s record total of $10,563,100 for 421 horses sold. The average price of $33,859 is also a record, up 35% from the last year’s sale record $25,090, and the median price rose 33.3% to a record $20,000 compared with $15,000 in 2012, surpassing the sale record of $16,000, set in 2004.  The buyback percentage was 23.9%; it was 20.4% last year. Thirty one horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 15 last year.

Circular Quay colt tops June Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 266, Cheers of Thunder, a son of Circular Quay whose three eighths in :33 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session was the day’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Paul Pompa, Jr. for $275,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, the bay colt is out of Trail of Cheers, by Indian Charlie.

Hip No. 180, a colt by Smart Strike consigned by All in Line Stables, Agent, went to Steven W. Young, Agent for Dogwood Stable, Inc., for $200,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 3/5 at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of Silk Road, by Giant’s Causeway, a half sister to graded stakes winner Summer Colony.

Hip No. 176, a First Samurai colt whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest on Friday, was purchased for $155,000 by EQB, Inc., Agent for Kenneth L. & Sarah K. Ramsey. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, the bay colt is out of Shoo In, by Dynaformer, a half sister to stakes winner Promise of War.

Gary Young, Agent, went to $150,000 for Hip No. 336, a filly by Dixie Union consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 2/5 on Saturday, is out of African Sunrise, by Tale of the Cat, a half sister to graded stakes winner Tough Speed.

Hip No 337, a colt by Dunkirk consigned by Azpurua Stables, Agent, was sold to Joseph Brocklebank, Agent, for $130,000. The bay colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 2/5 on Saturday, is out of A Gal Named Slew, by Johannesburg, a daughter of stakes winner Missy Slew.

Hip No. 11, Secret Song, a filly by Dunkirk consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, went to Mike Keathley for $120,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed a quarter in :22 flat on Friday, is out of Marialua, by Maria’s Mon, a half sister to stakes winner Honolua Storm.

 Hip No. 79, a Colonel John filly out of Pam’ssumerwind, by Rodeo, was sold to Blinkers On Racing Stable for $110,000. The dark bay or brown filly, consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 on Friday.

Hip No. 82, a filly by Even the Score whose quarter in :21 flat was co-fastest at the distance on Friday, went to Donato Lanni, Agent, for $110,000. Consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Pata Fresca, by Indian Charlie, a half sister to the dam of stakes winner Calleybluebayou.

For the session, 220 horses grossed $6,695,500 compared with 221 horses bringing a total of $5,087,800 at last year’s first session. The average was $30,434, up 32.2% from $23,022 a year ago, while the median price was $20,000, a gain of 33.3% compared with $15,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 25.4%; it was 17.5% in 2012. Forty three horses sold for $50,000 or more, compared with 24 at the corresponding session in 2012.

June Sale begins Tuesday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s annual June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age begins Tuesday, June 18th and runs through Wednesday, June 19th. Hip No’s 1 – 370 sell on Tuesday; Hip No’s 371 – 747 on Wednesday. Both sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and Bloodhorse websites. 

The Under Tack Show’s fastest eighths came on Saturday, with a pair of two-year-olds speeding the distance in :9 4/5. Hip No. 258, Puddifoot, consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is a gray or roan filly by Red Giant out of graded stakes winner Theresa’s Tizzy, by Cee’s Tizzy, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Got the Last Laugh. Hip No. 338, is a bay colt by Elusive Quality consigned by SAB Sales (Scott A. Bergsrud), Agent. He’s out of Agatha, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to champion Hishi Akebono.

Hip No. 618 is a daughter of Afleet Alex consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The bay filly is out of I’m From Dixie, by Dixieland Band, a half sister to graded stakes winner Sweet Vendetta. Repole Stable’s Notacatbutallama rated off the early going in Belmont’s $150, 000 Hill  Prince Stakes (G3), swung wide for the drive, hit the front a furlong from the finish and held Play It Loud at bay and scored by a neck. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Harlan’s Holiday, sold by de Meric Sales, Agent, for $105,000 at the 2012 OBS April Sale. C R K  Stable’s Kobe’s Back, making his first start in Hollywood’s $101,000 Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes, broke poorly and was dead last in the early going. But the 2-year-old colt by Flatter, sold for $480,000 by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale, got his act together in the stretch and ran by all eight rivals, drawing off to an impressive 3-1/4 length victory. Yukio Baba’s Best Warrior, sold for $400,000 at the 2012 OBS April Sale, has won Sunday’s Unicorn Stakes (G3) at Tokyo Racecourse by a length and a half. Maggi Moss’ Free World scored her fourth straight win, going wire to wire en route to a two length victory in Saturday’s $207,600 Centaur Stakes at Indiana Downs. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Stormy Atlantic, consigned by Bridlewood Farm, Agent, to the 2012 OBS March Sale. John C. Oxley’s Northern Passion came from off the pace to get up in the final strides and take Woodbine’s $125,400 Zadracarta Stakes by a neck. It’s the first win in three starts this year for the 4-year-old filly by First Samurai, now 11-4-2-1 with earnings of $541,217. Wayne Quanson’s Najran Breeze was a maiden going into the $51,000 Western Canada Handicap at Northlands Park, but took the early lead and never looked back, cantering home a stakes winner by twelve lengths. The 3-year-old gelding by Najran is a two time OBS graduate, sold first by Select Sales, Agent, at the 2011 August Sale before being resold by Paul Sharp, Agent, for $32,000 at the 2012 April Sale. Red Giant filly, Elusive Quality colt quickest at June Sale’s second Under Tack session

Two youngsters worked eighths in :9 4/5, posting the fastest works at the distance at the second session of the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. Hip No. 258, Puddifoot, consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is a gray or roan filly by Red Giant out of graded stakes winner Theresa’s Tizzy, by Cee’s Tizzy, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Got the Last Laugh. Hip No. 338, is a bay colt by Elusive Quality consigned by SAB Sales (Scott A. Bergsrud), Agent. He’s out of Agatha, by Distorted Humor, a half sister to champion Hishi Akebono.
