2012’s OBS Spring Sale grade one winners

Nine OBS Spring Sale graduates won grade one stakes races in 2012, highlighted by Eclipse Award winning campaigns by 2011 graduates I’ll Have Another and Trinniberg

J. Paul Reddam’s I’ll Have Another earned his Eclipse Award on the strength of victories in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1). He’s the third OBS two-year-old graduate voted champion 3-year-old male, joining Skip Away and Silver Charm. Undefeated in 2012 with four graded stakes wins, the son of Flower Alley was sold for $35,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, on behalf of Victor Davila at the 2011 OBS April Sale after working an eighth in :10 2/5. Retired on the morning of the Belmont Stakes, he ended his racing career with earnings of $2,693,600 and is now standing at stud in Japan at Big Red Farm.  Watch and listen as I’ll Have Another breezes and sells at the 2011 OBS April Sale

Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg is the fourth OBS juvenile graduate to win the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter, joining Cherokee Run, Lost in the Fog and Midnight Lute. He won three graded stakes in 2012, ending the year with a victory in the $1,363,500 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). He sped an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show before selling for $21,000 by M & H Training and Sales, Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale. Pinnacle Racing Stables and trainer Bill Kaplan’s champion Musical Romance, winner of Calder’s Princess Rooney (G1) in April, retired from racing a multiple stakes winner of $1,682,855. The daughter of Concorde’s Tune won the Eclipse Award as 2011’s champion Female Sprinter. After  breezing a quarter in :21 flat, she was sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale. Upon retirement, she brought $1.6-million as a broodmare prospect. watch her under tack video

P and G Stables and Off the Hook Racing’s Turbo Compressor won Monmouth’s $505,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) in July, cruising by a length and three quarters. He ended 2012 with a 17-7-2-2 record and earnings of $953,960. The son of Halo’s Image, who zipped an eighth in :10 flat prior to the sale, was sold for $22,000 by breeder Bridlewood Farm at the 2010 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith’s Turbulent Descent won the Ballerina Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in August. The multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Congrats completed her career with four grade one wins including Saratoga’s prestigious Test Stakes (G1) and earnings of $1,211,640. After working a quarter in :20 4/5, she was sold for $160,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2010 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video


 

 

Pegram, Watson or Weitman's Executiveprivilege and Rafael Bejarano win the Grade I $250,000 Chandelier Stakes Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, CA.

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s Eclipse Award finalist Executiveprivilege won four graded races in 2012, including the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Chandelier Stakes (G1). The 2012 OBS April Sale topper, who worked a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, was sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000. She ended her 2-year-old campaign with five wins in seven starts and earnings of $940,000. watch her under tack video

 

 

Arnold Zetcher’s Rolling Fog was two for two in 2012, winning the $300,000 Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his second trip to the post. The colt by Posse was purchased for $62,000 out of the Classic Bloodstock (Danzel Brendemuehl) consignment at the 2012 April Sale after an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Three Diamonds Farm’s Next Question achieved grade one status in 2012 with a victory in the $501,200 Nearctic Stakes (G1) at Woodbine. The lightly raced gelding by Stormy Atlantic, consigned by Leprechaun Racing, Agent, to the 2010 OBS April Sale, is now 8-3-1-1 with earnings of $403,013. His eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Lakland Farm’s Unbridled Command, who breezed a leisurely quarter in :22 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, ended his 3-year-old year with a big run from well back to win the $250,000 Hollywood Derby (G1). It was his fifth straight win and second graded stakes score, and left him with a 10-6-1-2 record and $469,040 in earnings. The colt by Master Command was sold for $28,000 by Sequel Bloodstock (Becky Thomas), Agent, at the 2011 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video
