Flat Out, Master Rick score in graded stakes

Preston Stables LLC’s 7-year-old Flat Out is still going strong, getting up in the final yards to win Belmont’s $147, 000 Westchester Stakes (G3) by a head, running the mile distance in a rapid 1:32 4/5. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the Florida-bred son of Flatter, whose four for four record at Belmont Park includes back to back wins in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1).  Now 23-7-4-3 with earnings of $2,660,883, he was sold for $11,000 as a weanling by Thoroughstock, Agent, at the 2006 OBS Fall Mixed Sale.

 

Richard L. Davis’s Master Rick picked up his first graded stakes win in the $200,000 Texas Mile Stakes (G3) at Lone Star on Saturday, taking charge inside the final furlong and drawing clear to win by a length and a quarter.  Fellow OBS graduate Good Lord (June ’09) checked in third. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Master Command, a two time OBS graduate, sold by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2010 August Sale before being purchased for $47,000 out of the D S B Stable consignment at the 2011 April Sale. The win gives him a 16-4-1-2 record and earnings of $351,363. watch his under tack video

William Stiritz’s Algonquin Posse took command of Saturday’s $88,800 Third Chance Handicap at Hawthorne on the turn and then drew away from there, sailing to a 4-1/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Posse, now 17-6-5-2 with earnings of $267,604. She was sold for $18,000 by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2009 OBS August Sale.

Summer Exclusive scores in Hollywood’s Harry Henson Stakes

Chandler, Fink, Marier, Gencarella, Trzos, Topol and Altamira Racing Stable’s Summer Exclusive rallied from fifth in a field of six, wore down fellow OBS graduate Sacred Ovation (March ’12) in the final yards and won Hollywood’s $73,600 Harry Henson Stakes by a head. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Exclusive Quality, sold for $82,000 by All In Sales (Tony Bowling), Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Street Sense colt tops final session of record breaking Spring Sale

Hip No. 1002, a son of Street Sense consigned by Rice Horse Stables, Agent, went to David M. Clark for $425,000 to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s record shattering 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The gray or roan colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Spoken Softly, by Notebook, a full sister to grade one winner Spoken Fur.

Hip No. 1087, a gray or roan colt by Harlan’s Holiday consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was sold to The Three Amigos for $410,000. Out of Tinca’s Song, by Unbridled’s Song, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Catinca, he worked an eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 909, a daughter of Tapit consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was purchased by Cam Allard, for $310,000.  The chestnut filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Scenery Change, by Royal Academy, a daughter of grade one winner You’d Be Surprised.

Hip No. 1126, Vegas Strip, consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent, was sold to Zayat Stables LLC for $310,000. The bay colt by Harlan’s Holiday, who turned in an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Untamed Passion, by Pulpit, a half sister to graded stakes winner Fantasticat.

Steve Shahinian, Agent for Clarke, Braverman and Team D, went to $310,000 for Hip No. 1134, a son of Horse Greeley who worked three eighths in :33 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Consigned by Derby Dreams, Agent, the chestnut colt is out of Varus, by Vicar, a half sister to stakes placed Cape Good Hope.

K. K. Eishindo paid $300,000 for Hip No. 1096, Cheers of Thunder, consigned by Blue River Bloodstock. The bay colt, by Circular Quay out of Trail of Cheers, by Indian Charlie, worked the sale’s fastest three eighths, stopping the timer in :33 flat.

Rockingham Racing, Agent, went to $250,000 for Hip No. 953, a daughter of Street Boss consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The chestnut filly, whose quarter in :20 3/5 was the fastest at the distance at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of Sigatoo, by Black Minnaloushe, a half sister to graded stakes placed Solar Fire.

For the session, 178 horses sold for a total of $9,897,500, compared with 176 bringing $8,591,700 at 2012’s final session. The average price was $55,604, up 13.9% from $48,816 a year ago, while the median price was $30,000, up 20% from $25,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 23.3%; it was 17.4% a year ago.

For the entire sale, 802 youngsters grossed a record $48,549,000, surpassing the previous mark of $33,506,400 achieved last year. The average price of $60,535 was also a sale record, up 39.3% from last year’s record $43,458. The median price also set a new standard of $35,000 eclipsing 2012’s previous record of $27,000 by 29.6%. The buyback percentage was 15.4%; it was 16.4% last year. Thirty-nine horses brought $200,000 or more compared with 17 last year.

Topping the sale was Hip No. 572, Prince Bernardini, a son of Bernardini consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, and sold to Brushwood Stable for $900,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, is out of Rooneys Princess, by Deputy Minister, and is a half brother to stakes winner Prince Rooney.

Next on the OBS agenda is the June Two-Year-Olds & Horses of Racing Age Sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18th and 19th, with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Under Tack Show will run from Friday through Sunday, June 14th to 16th, getting underway each morning at 7:30 a.m.

Birdstone, Pulpit colts top third Spring Sale session

Colts by Birdstone and Pulpit were sold for $375, 000 to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.

Hip No. 607, a son of Birdstone consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, went to Michael Dilger, Agent.  The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of graded stakes placed Literary Light, by Ide, a full sister to stakes winner Junior College.

Donato Lanni, Agent, bought Hip No. 866, by Pulpit, consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Rhythmical Beat, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to graded stakes winner Mutakddim.

Hip No 890, Thank You Daddy, whose quarter mile breeze in :20 2/5 was the sale’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Conquest Stables LLC for $370,000. The bay filly by Hear No Evil, consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, is out of Saint Sammi, by Saint Ballado, a full sister to graded stakes winner Flame Thrower.

Mike House and Sam Britt paid $350,000 for Hip No. 645, a dark bay or brown colt by Flatter consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent. Out of Malamado, by Broken Vow, a half sister to graded stakes winner Tar Heel Mom, he worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 685, a daughter of Old Fashioned consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Simon Callaghan for $340,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes placed Miss Puzzle (AUS), by Citidancer (IRE), and is a half sister to stakes winner Mr. Candy Bar.

Conquest Stables LLC went to $300,000 for Hip No. 701, a daughter of Colonel John out of More Oats Please, by Smart Strike, a half sister to stakes winner Miss Valentine. Consigned by Scanlon Training Center, Agent, the bay filly worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 613, a dark bay or brown colt by In Summation consigned by Azpurua Stables, Agent, was sold for $250,000 to Steven W. Young, Agent. A half brother to graded stakes placed St. Joe out of Load Up, by Dove Hunt, he breezed a quarter in :20 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.

  Hip No. 618, sold to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $230,000, is a son of Officer out of stakes placed Loramateal, by Storm Creek. The chestnut colt, consigned by Harris Training Center, Agent, sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 860, a son of Run Away and Hide whose eighth last Thursday in :9 3/5 was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, was sold to David M. Clark for $220,000. The bay colt, consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, is out of Regal Bird, by Grand Slam, a half sister to graded stakes placed Ghost Ring.

Bear Stables, Ltd., Linda Rice, Agent, went to $210,000 for Hip No. 822, a bay colt by Freud out of Pulpit’s Pride, by Pulpit. Consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Inc. (Becky Thomas), Agent, he worked an eighth in :10 flat last Thursday.

For the day, 205 horses brought a total of $13,465,000 compared with 202 horses grossing $8,526,700 at last year’s third session. With one session remaining, the cumulative gross after three sessions is $38,563,500, surpassing the previous Spring Sale record $33,506,400, set over four sessions in 2012.

The average was $65,683, a gain of 55.6% from $42,211 a year ago, while the median price was $40,000, up 48.1% from $27,000 at the corresponding session in 2012. The buyback percentage was 14.6%; it was 13.3% last year. Forty-two horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 16 in 2012.

 The Spring Sale’s final session begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Hip No. 548, a chestnut colt by High Cotton consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold to St. Elias and West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. for $600,000. The half brother to stakes winner St. Louis City out of Keikik, by Aloha Prospector, worked a quarter at the Under Tack Show in :21 1/5.  

Hip No. 483, by Two Step Salsa out of stakes placed Homesteader, by Pioneering, a half sister to stakes winner King and Crusader, was sold for $420,000 to Conquest Stables LLC. The dark bay or brown colt, consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 506, a son of Henny Hughes consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales, LLC, Agent, was sold to Bear Stables, Ltd. for $310,000. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Impart, by Maria’s Mon,  a half sister to stakes winner Wiseman’s Ferry.

Hip No. 560 brought $290,000, the daughter of Ghostzapper going to Dominic Brennan, Agent for Highland Yard, LLC. The bay filly, consigned by Price Thoroughbreds (Andro and Tracey Price), Agent, is out of Koko Pop, by A.P. Indy, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Got Koko.

Pelican Stable LLC went to $280,000 for Hip No. 362, a dark bay or brown Discreet Cat filly consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. Out of Fico, by Silver Deputy, she turned in an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 573, a chestnut colt by D’wildcat consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to Hubert Guy Bloodstock, Agent for Robert Hess, Jr. for $250,000. Out of Lady Kilkeelan, by Lil’s Lad, a half sister to stakes winner Copingwithvictory, he worked an eighth in :10 1/5.

Hip No. 336, a daughter of Kitten’s Joy consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Regis Farms for $240,000. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Exceedexpectations, by Tale of the Cat, and is a full sister to stakes winner Politicallycorrect.

Stonestreet Stables LLC paid $200,000 for Hip No. 392, It’s a Lie, a daughter of Yes It’s True whose quarter in :20 4/5 was the co-fastest at the distance at Wednesday’s Under Tack session. Consigned by Indian Prairie Ranch, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of For Scarlett, by Red Ransom, and is a half sister to stakes placed Samurai Slam.

Also working in :20 4/5 was Hip No. 492, a gray or roan colt by Rockport Harbor consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, and sold to David M. Clark for $200,000. He’s out of stakes winner Hummel, by Jeblar, a half sister to stakes winner Hollywood Left.

Hip No. 502, consigned by Bo Hunt, Agent, also brought $200,000, the son of Candy Ride (ARG) going to Bloom Racing Stable LLC. The chestnut colt, a half brother to stakes winner American Sugar, is out of I Love America, by Quiet American.

For the session, 208 horses grossed $13,091,500, compared with 207 bringing a total of $8,855,000 at the corresponding session in 2012. The average price was $62,940, up 47.1% compared with $42,778 a year ago while the median price of $40,000 rose 33.3% from $30,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 14.4%; it was 14.8% last year. Twenty-six horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 17 in 2012.

Hip No. 292, a chestnut filly by Limehouse consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, was sold to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $320,000 to top the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Out of Dominica, by Housebuster, a full sister to stakes winner Find the Treasure, she worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show last Tuesday.

Hip No. 26, a son of Colonel John consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $290,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Always Ready, by Dixieland Band, a half sister to grade one stakes winner More Than Ready. 

Hip No. 300, a bay colt by Henny Hughes who sped a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, was sold to K. K. Eishindo for $290,000. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, he’s out of stakes placed Dressed for Success and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Switch to the Lead.

Hip No. 5, Flat Jack, by Flatter out of Adena’s Girl, by Personal Flag, consigned by Ocala Stud, Agent, was sold to West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc., for $285,000. The dark bay or brown colt, whose quarter in :20 4/5 was co-fastest at the distance at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is a half brother to stakes placed Ready and Tough.

Dennis O’Neill, who purchased 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another out of the 2011 Spring Sale, paid $200,000 for Hip No. 187, a gray or roan filly by Stroll out of Chosen Honor, by Sultry Song, a half sister to stakes winner Art Trader. Consigned by Best A Luck Farm LLC, Agent, she worked an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 flat. 

Hip No. 237, a daughter of Flatter consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, was sold to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $200,000. The gray or roan filly, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Crystal Lyric, by El Prado (IRE), a half sister to stakes winner Proven Cure.

Old South also sold Hip No. 252 for $200,000, a daughter of City Zip whose eighth in :9 3/5 was the Under Tack Show’s co-fastest at the distance. Purchased by David Clark, the chestnut filly is out of Danse Kongo, by Petionville, a half sister to stakes placed Copy My Swagger.

K. K. Eishindo went to $190,000 for Hip No. 165, a son of Old Fashioned consigned by Bobby Jones Equine, LLC, Agent. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth in:10 flat, is out of Catspaw, by Storm Cat, a daughter of graded stakes winner Footing.

Hip No. 227, consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg and Karen Dodd), Agent, also brought $190,000, the son of Street Boss going to Zayat Stables LLC. The dark bay or brown colt, whose quarter in :20 4/5 was Tuesday’s co-fastest, is out of Credential, by Valid Appeal, a half sister to stakes winner Table the Motion.

Hip No. 4, a son of Wildcat Heir consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to New Farm for $180,000. The bay colt, who sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Additional Prayer, by Songandaprayer.

New Farm also paid $170,000 for Hip No. 10, a gray or roan colt by Exchange Rate out of A Fleet Peach, by Afleet, a half sister to graded stakes winner Eishin Dover. Consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds, (Steven Venosa), Agent, he worked an eighth in :10 flat.

Hip No. 99, a son of Malibu Moon consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to John C. Kimmel, Agent for Summit Thoroughbreds, for $170,000.  The bay colt, who worked a quarter in :22 flat, is out of Berry Blessed, by St. Jovite, and is a half brother to stakes winner Shem.

Alex & JoAnn Lieblong paid $160,000 for Hip No. 129, a daughter of D’wildcat consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of stakes placed Browning, by Jump Start, a half sister to graded stakes winner Queen of Money.

Hip No. 196, consigned by Murray Smith, Agent, also went for $160,000, going to Gary Contessa, Agent. The chestnut colt by Elusive Quality, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Clambake (IRE), a half sister to graded stakes winner Art Deco.

For the day, 189 horses brought a total of $11,372,500, compared with 186 horses selling for a  total of $7,533,000  at last year’s opening session. The average price was $60,172, soaring 48.6% from $40,500 last year while the median price was $37,000, rising 48% compared with $25,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 18.9%; it was 20.2% last year.  Thirty-four horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 14 in 2012.

Spring Sale begins Monday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Monday, April 22nd and runs through Thursday, April 25th, with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF and Bloodhorse websites.

At the Under Tack Show, two horses consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, shared honors for the fastest eighth, getting the distance in :9 3/5. On Tuesday it was Hip No. 252, a chestnut daughter of City Zip out of Danse Kongo, by Petionville. She’s a half sister to stakes placed Copy My Swagger. Hip No. 860, a youngster by Run Away and Hide breezed on Thursday. The bay colt is out of Regal Bird, by Grand Slam, a half sister to graded stakes placed Ghost Ring.

Hip No. 890, Thank You Daddy, a daughter of Hear No Evil consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, turned in the Under Tack Show’s fastest quarter on Thursday, stopping the timer in :20 2/5. The bay filly is out of Saint Sammi, by Saint Ballado, a full sister to graded stakes winner Flame Thrower.

Blue River also consigned Hip No. 1096, Cheers of Thunder, who worked three-eighths in :33 flat on Friday, the Under Tack Show’s fastest at the distance. The bay colt by Circular Quay is out of Trail of Cheers, by Indian Charlie.

Five OBS grads score Saturday stakes wins

Maggi Moss’ Free World went right to the lead in Charles Town’s $85, 000 Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes and never looked back, rolling to a 6-1/2 length victory. Her first stakes win gives the 3-year-old Stormy Atlantic filly a 6-3-2-0 record with earnings of $104, 840. Consigned by Bridlewood Farm, Agent, she went through the ring at the 2012 OBS March Sale.  watch her under tack video

J and J Stables and GSP Stables’ Jewel of a Cat made the lead after straightening away in the stretch of Pimlico’s $75, 000 Stormy Blues Stakes and drew away from there to win by 2-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Ek Haseena (August ’11, October ’10). It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Wildcat Heir, now 5-3-2-0 with $119, 400 in earnings. She was sold for $40,000 by Bo Hunt, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale. watch her under tack video

Chasing Tails Stables’ Starship Truffles came from just off the pace, took command a furlong from home and eased away to a 1-1/2 length victory in the $50,000 Musical Romance Stakes at Calder. Fellow OBS graduate Bahia Beach (Adena Springs ’10 ) was second. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Ghostzapper, sold for $22,000 by Nickajack/Rey de Oros at the 2011 OBS June Sale after going through the ring at the April Sale. The win gives her a 21-12-2-2 record and earnings of $224,325. watch her under tack video

David Wolochuk’s Jossy Do It picked up her first stakes win on Saturday at Evangeline Downs, leading all the way en route to a 5-3/4 length score in the $50,000 Hallowed Dreams Stakes. Sold for $12,000 by Ricky Leppala, Agent, at the 2012 OBS April Sale, the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Proud Accolade is now 10-3-3-1 and has earned $78,800. watch her under tack video

Six Wide Racing LLC’s Candy Bites also scored her first stakes win on Saturday, rallying to win the $50,000 Howard B. Noonan Stakes at Beulah Park by half a length. It’s the second win in six starts this year for the 3-year-old filly by Candy Ride (ARG), sold by Mayberry Farm, Agent, for $21,000 at the 2012 OBS April Sale. Old Fashioned filly fastest at Under Tack finale

Hip No. 1001, Pop of Color, a chestnut filly by Old Fashioned consigned by Costanzo Sales, Agent, breezed an eighth in :9 4/5, the fastest work at the distance at the fourth and final session of the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. She’s out of Splendid Honor, by Double Honor, a half sister to stakes winner Crusader’s Poetry.

 

The day’s fastest quarter was :20 3/5 by Hip No. 953, a daughter of Street Boss consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The chestnut filly is out of Sigatoo, by Black Minnaloushe, a half sister to graded stakes placed Solar Fire.

A pair of fillies consigned by All Dreams, Agent, worked quarters in :20 4/5. Hip No. 1033 is a bay filly by Wildcat Heir, out of Sugar Run, by Meadowlake, a full sister to stakes winner Amalake. Hip No. 1097 is a bay daughter of Kitten’s Joy out of Transformation, by Langfuhr, a half sister to stakes winner Peppi Knows.

Two youngsters worked quarters in :21 flat. Hip No. 1135, Tefa, is a bay filly by Artie Schiller consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent. She’s out of Vibration, by Catienus, a full sister to stakes winner Self Made Man. Hip No. 1158, consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, is a bay colt by Into Mischief out of stakes placed Western Melody, by West by West.

Hip No. 1096, Cheers of Thunder, turned in the session’s fastest three-eighths, stopping the timer in :33 flat. Consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, the bay colt by Circular Quay is out of Trail of Cheers, by Indian Charlie.

Two horses consigned by Old South Farm, Agent, shared honors for the entire Under Tack Show’s fastest eighth, getting the distance in :9 3/5. On Tuesday it was Hip No. 252, a  chestnut daughter of City Zip out of Danse Kongo, by Petionville. She’s a half sister to stakes placed Copy My Swagger. Hip No. 860, a youngster by Run Away and Hide breezed on Thursday. The bay colt is out of Regal Bird, by Grand Slam, a half sister to graded stakes placed Ghost Ring.

Hip No. 890, Thank You Daddy, a daughter of Hear No Evil consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Agent, turned in the Under Tack Show’s fastest quarter on Thursday, stopping the timer in :20 2/5. The bay filly is out of Saint Sammi, by Saint Ballado, a full sister to graded stakes winner Flame Thrower.

The Spring Sale is scheduled for Monday, April 22nd through Thursday, April 25th with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m.
